72cc BBK and 120 Jet Popping
« on: July 07, 2013, 04:51:25 AM »
Hello all! Been a while since I seriously tore into my scooter since last year. Can't seem to get enough fuel into the thing. It pops every time I give it more than 1/4 or 1/2 throttle thereabouts. Got a free flow air filter on there so I know I'm needing a rather large jet with the 72cc BBK combo. I don't wanna burn this cylinder out and can't find any obvious air leaks. Any discussion or tips would be greatly appreciated! ??? ??? ??? ???

Im running a 72cc kit with stock exhaust and open foam filter. Ive got a 92 jet in it now, anything bigger causes popping at half to full throttle. One trick I did to dial it in was, start with a jet thats a little smaller than 120, maybe a 110, cut a 24oz beer can in half (bud light cans work the best), slip the half of the can with the open tab over the air filter and go ride it. If it pops worse, than you know your to rich. I started with a 98 jet and a can over the filter, and now im down to a 92 with no can. What plug/coil are you using?

Will definitely give that a shot.

I have a performance coil in it, with a regular spark plug (not iridium or anything).

I'm completely new to the scooter world. But I was reading you user post list. Noticed this popping has been going on since you jetted you engine. ~ If this were a truck I would tell you popping means you are getting more fuel than you are burning, so you have delayed ignition or pops.

Well that is my guess from cars and trucks. Too much fuel, not enough burn.

You just need to find the right air to gas mix. try blocking off part of the air filter with duck tape and see what that does.
If to much you can take some off or if not enough you cann add more. it will give you a idea if you need to jet up or jet down.
