Mini Tow Pac for GV250
« on: August 18, 2009, 10:28:34 AM »
My wife has been riding two-up with me on my 09 Burgman 650, and has finally decided she wanted her own machine.  I purchased an eight year old Honda reflex due to the seat height and the cost, and she proceeded to drop it five out of the six times she tried to ride it.   Thank god we were in parking lots and she wasn't hurt, but the scooter does not look very well.  When I was having my Burgman serviced at the dealer (who is also a Kymco dealer) I saw a used Grand VIsta with 400 miles on it, and after some discussion was told the previous owner owned it for three weeks and decided he wanted a motorcycle instead.  They were asking 4K for it, but told me I could have it for 3.4K.  It is a red 09, and still has almost the full two year warranty left.  Perhaps more importantly, my wife fits on it due to the low seat height.  At any rate I purchased it figuring my wife could continue to learn on the Honda and then switch to the unscathed Kymco.

This leads up to the next question.  I am a member of an active scooter riding group and one of the members has a 400CC Burgman with a mini tow-pac (turning it into a trike).  My wife saw it and decided that was the way to go.  They make a kit for the Grand Vista but it cost as much as the scooter.  Does anyone have any experience with a Tow-Pak on the Grand Vista, and if so I would love your comments.  The unit weighs less than 100 pounds with the 12 inch wheels, the MSF in Pa will allow her to take their course (and thus get a license  if she passes) using it, and the added weight should not present a problem given my wife's somewhat small stature.  I also would spend the money if I felt the Kymco was a good match for it.

All of that being said (and I apologize for the wordy FIRST question for the group),  but...

1-Will the Grand Vista hold up long enough for the add-on to make sense (though it can be moved to most any scooter)?
2- Will it be safe assuming she gets the practice and takes the course.
3- What has your experience been, if any, with sucn an add-on unit?

Thanks for the response, and I look forward to being a regular, hopefully contributing member, to this groupas I am with the Burgman group.
