Understanding LIKE 200i specs

These are some of the electrical specs for the LIKE 200i:
Regulator/Rectifier Type
Single-phase full-wave SCR
Limit voltage

Charging 14.5 ± 0.5V/ 8000 rpm


1) Might this mean that the redline is 8000rpm?

And some engine specs:
Max. output   -   8.1/7500 kw/rpm
Max. torque (kg m/rpm)  -  12.2/6500 Nm/rpm



2) Does the above mean that the max HP is produced at 7500 rpm, and the max torque is produced at 6500 rpm

So, would it make sense that 8000rpm is the redline?

FYI- in a recent email from Kymco I was informed by the fellow answering my query that (a) he "has never hit a rev limiter" on his LIKE200i - so, he figures that (b) the LIKE200i does not have one. (I guess I'm OK with 'a' being the result of 'b' )

This is not necessarily an esoterical exercise - as several of us LIKE owners have, or intend to have, a tachometer on their scoots.

1) Not necessarily. This generator might be attached to different engines.
2) Yes. But still no hard fact regarding the redline.

I apologize if what I posted came off as trying to say that the Like 200i has no rev limiter.  I am positive it does have one, I have just not found it yet even when doing 70 mph down a steep hill at full throttle.  My educated guess is that because the exhaust is so restrictive, that under a load it is VERY, VERY difficult to hit the rev limiter with the current gearing(wind resistance and all of that).  With that being said, I have hit the rev limiter on my Like 200i by having it on the center stand and revving the motor.  Now what the rev limiter is set to, I have no idea.

Perhaps it even doesn't need a rev limiter, because the exterior and interior (engine) resistances make it impossible to attain dangerous (for the engine) speeds.
I just don't know. ???

My MP3 has 244cc (with probably more stroke than the Kymco 163cc) and max output at 8250 rpm and the limiter at 9000 rpm.
I guess the Kymco engine might tolerate 9-10000 rpm and just can't hit that.

All OEM cdi's have rev limiters...It's the gadget's basic feature... Manufacturers require those to protect the engine... and protect the manufacturers from law suits... At what RPM? that we don't know....

FYI I believe my Like 50 cdi does not have a rev limiter.

in combination with the fact Ive gotten it to 9500k going down hilll and it didnt want to stop. I quit giving it gas out of fear of blowing up the engine (and maybe my life..)

If it's set up like the small engines I sell and work on at the shop then,
 1: The rectifier is designed for that output at that RPM. Nothing to do with your redline, just a baseline for testing in case end user is having trouble blowing up light bulbs and fuses (happens a lot on Agility 50's that we've sold lately). Also has to be stated that way which I will get to after #2.
2: The test engines the spec sheets are based on for your particular model list the top H.P. and Torque and which engine RPM's those engines had to be at to reach those levels. All the engines had to be within 10% of those numbers so Kymco could cover their asses with the write ups when publishing them for sales here in the states.
The problem is that there is no real suggestions / guidelines for what your max RPM's should be. I've yet to find anything listed in any service manuals or spec sheets on any of the scooters we sell. All the mowers, tractors, side-by-sides and anything else we have though I have it written out plainly for top RPM's at WOT and most hand equipment like anything Stihl has it listed what top RPM is when the rev limiter is designed to kick in. The other problem now is that to sell anything and be able to list Torque / Horsepower as a selling point, it has to say somewhere that it's reached at a set RPM under "No Load". A few years ago some guy on the west coast, Oregon somewhere I think, sued or started a class action suit against Kohler specifically but then added the other small engine makers because his push mower would not reach the advertised H.P. set up to mow. The stated 6.75h.p. on his Wal-Mart was only reachable at 3600RPM but obviously this guy was a mechanical engineer and not a mechanic so had to scream and shout that he knew better and was ripped off in horsies. Now they mostly list Torque at so and so RPM's, and a few like Kawasaki still list HP, but again at so and so RPM's.

So now that I confused a fairly simple question and can no longer make a long story short in my rant, the simple answer is: Those numbers listed for spec show the potential power from your engine, Torque and HP, but not necessarily the safe RPM's for running your scooter at, and I have yet to find a recommendation from Kymco for top RPM's.

Thanks jaraxus. The manual does state that the check engine light will come on if the speed is too much - and will go back off when speed is reduced.  Seems like they are saying that the rider is the rev limiter ----

As I stated above, I have hit the rev limiter on my Like 200i while on the center stand.  So yes, there is in fact a rev limiter.  The check engine light will turn on to let you know you have hit the limiter, and to back off on the throttle to lower the revs.  It does not mean that there is no limiter and that the rider is the limiter.

Anyone have a tach on it when it hits the rev limiter and the light comes on?
Just curious.......
I see a lot of the low 6K's on my tach when riding on city streets. (max speed @40mph)
The tach displays the highest RPM reached on the previous run, when I shut down. It is usually @6400>6800 or so.. This includes a 40mph blast up a long hill close to home. We're talking a quarter ton+ of bike, rider and tools! coming up that hill on the back of 163cc's! And, frankly, that speed is just fine for me and this scooter. Bigger scoot - bigger wheels - more cc's - then we'd be OK going faster.

  My Yager has a red area on the tach showing 8000 as redline. I had been able to go past this
but only to about 9000. Then I was messing with the variator and added some sliders and was
able to hit the real redline at 9800 RPM's where the motor cut out. So I would say most scoots
are designed to run at 80% of max RPM's and in stock trim shouldn't hit the rev limiter.

 You have to be careful of exceeding the real max limit as your rod's might not like it. The force
on them goes up quickly with rising revs...
