Hi there ,I don't think belt width wear is the only factor to consider before changing ,but one should examine the belt closely for signs of crack and fibers coming loose mainly if your service period has expired ,as breaking a belt when driving at high speeds can also damage the rollers and it can has disastrous consequences . :-[

Of COURSE if it looks like a Furbie but still measures in spec... Replace it

knee slider is your belt the same size as the 300i downtown   1004 mm. x 25.2 mm. with 30 degree      I have bought 2 belts so far and they measure 1004 x 24 mm.  so they are worn out brand new,. but they work very well,. and I have put 30,000 km. on the original belt and it still looks good, just a few cracks when you bend the belt tight, and it is still at 26 mm. ,  tops out at 144 km. per hour,  I have not tryed down hill with a tail wind yet,. dressed to ride 230 lbs. 6 foot tall, and to old to do this often,.   Don

If you use 1.5mm as the wear point from whatever it actually measured new, it suddenly goes from "worn out new" to new that has 1.5mm yet to wear.

I have no affirmative info on this but i contacted Malossi and they replied that the DT200 and DT300 belts are different.  Anyone can chime in on this? In Malaysia, only the DT200 is available so I can't just pop into the dealership and ask to compare the two belts.

I do not disbelieve you fellows re. the manual.......I just think it is cheap insurance to change the oil much more often than that in a scooter engine. Goodness, it must be very hard & require several quarts to change the oil in your big scoots.
Old school here -I change the oil in all my cars at 3000 miles.

I change my engine oil every 10,000 miles since 1998
(MB229.x approved engine oil which can be found at Wally for $26/Gallon)
Currently I've got 200,000+ miles on it and still runs great.
For busy people like me, I just can't imagine those time, money and effort you need to waste if you fo it every 3000 miles

Go to Stadium Yamaha, and look up the numbers... That will confirm it for you

Question to those who are using malossi belt instead of mitsuboshi ,the belt life of 20,000 km is the same for both belts ?

In MY experience Malossi last about 1/3rd as long but perform better. They are a softer compound that resists slipping but they tend to wear out faster

  so the malossi belts last about 6000 km. do they cost $35.00   the mitsubossi belts last + 20,000 km.  and cost $ 100.00

Malossi's always cost more than OEM. I did use one for my speed runs but switched back to a Bando for street use.

The X-Kevlar is the belt I am talking about. When they hit their wear limit they do NOT give a ssignal or warning. They EXPLODE into a thousand pieces, and usually cause ALOT of damage when they do.

I used to recommend them all the time for street use but i Whole Heartedly recind that recomendation, and sugest they be used for TRACK USE ONLY. They grip instantly for power but when they do fail it's a show.

The last one I used on the street for an extended time (3-4 thousand miles) blew, and took out the variator, as well as the crank bearing on that side of the engine.
