Stash of SYM scoots
« on: March 27, 2014, 05:02:21 PM »
Hello,
This being a fairly open minded scoot forum - I thought I'd pass along some info on the other good Taiwan scoot brand. I also placed the info on www.SYMforum.com

Today my teen daughter and I visited a small town SYM dealer who has a small clean room full of one each of the SYM scooter models...plus 2 or 3 Havana types.
He has one 2013 RV 250, but the remainder seem to be new left over stock from '12, or so.
I was encouraged by the polite young salesperson to offer the owner (not present today) $2500 for the new 2012 HD 200 EVO which they have stickered at $2900.
Very sadly I am not presently able to do that - but thought I'd make mention of it here.
This shop has had these scoots for some time - selling very few - mechanic quit on them - so, I think they'd be happy to get back some of their investment in their stock.
Speak with Robert Mitchell, at Scooter & Sun, Inc.

I'm down after a bit of surgery for a few days - so daughter and I hit the Vespa/Piaggio dealer and the SYM dealer.
I noted that all the Vespas and the beautiful Piaggio BV350 had Michelin City Grips. Man the Italians make a pretty scoot!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Yeah, I was going to buy the BV350 but found it cramped my rather large frame. It was very beautiful and technologically advanced but very expensive. Their dealers are few and far between.

SYM products are supposed to be good too but then again, there are no dealer's around where I live.

A Kymco dealer is about 60 miles south of me, where I bought my 500 and the price was right.

In contrast to a lot of experiences by people here, our local dealer switched from Kymco to SYM/Lance because the customer service was so much better with SYM. I still love Kymco products, but for me, all the support/parts/service are SYM oriented. And Stig, that BV350 is beautiful!

Wow, that is good to hear - I keep leaning towards that HD 200 down the pike as my scoot to take me to the End Times.
I do understand why SYM folks get so peeved when they cannot source parts from an exploded parts image, with prices. You do your best to describe the busted part to a guy, he orders it and you cross your fingers.

Hey stig that service manual garbage people try to force feed is BS. For the US models service manuals are online. So are many exploded diagrams.

Many people that bitch about buying SYM parts online also have an iPhone.
Nothing proprietary about apple parts/schematics etc........

Dealer support near your location would be my first concern and parts the last.
You won't be needing many anyway.lol
