Fuse issue
« on: April 23, 2014, 06:05:34 AM »
This past week, the small 7 amp fuse on my Super8 150 has blown twice. When it blows, the turn signals won't work, and the headlight and instrument lights get dim. Then when I turn off the engine, the scoot is completely dead until I change it.
Are there any simple culprits that I can check that would blow just the little 7 amp fuse. If I can't find the issue, I'll be left with going to the dealer that has already provided questionable service.
If anyone else has had an issue with this, please let me know where to start looking.

It could be anywhere in that circuit. An Ohm meter can help track it down. You have to completely expose the harness most times, and work back one step at a time.
Do you have any clue what triggers it to blow? Or does it just seem random

The first time was after my dealer goofed the service and the bike wouldn't start. Someone I work with said that the repeated use of the starter when trying to get it running again probably overloaded the fuse, and it ran fine after changing it.
After it died again, from the clogged airbox issue, it ran for a couple of days fine, and then last night, after riding for a couple hours on my night off, I hit the blinker switch, It blinked twice and then quit, and all the lights went dim.
The same friend told me it still could have been the multiple starter hits that messed with it, and it just took a little longer for it to go. He suggested going up to a 7.5 to see how it acts.

I changed the 7 amp with a 7.5 amp fuse and rode it this morning for a bit and it has been fine, so far, and nothing seems to be bursting into flames. If the 7.5 blows, I'll start pulling off plastic.

Starting to wonder if it's just the crappy glass fuses. They don't seem to tolerate vibration or impact very well, and my roads are pretty rough around here. I might just do a blade fuse conversion like Vivo did on his, and see what happens.

Well, I was out riding all day today, and the 7.5 amp fuse hasn't blown after clocking about 60 miles of errand running and joyriding.
And I haven't discovered anything burning in the wiring.

Maybe (fingers crossed) it was just one of those freak things that didn't amount to anything major. I still think I'm gonna do the blade fuse conversion anyway, just to eliminate the crappy glass fuses.
