People One 125i Upgrades
« on: April 15, 2014, 11:26:22 AM »
Hi I am new to the forum; I just bought a slightly used People One 125i and I would like to upgrade performance (modestly).

I haven't found much information about this model  -perhaps because its quite new?
Can someone tell me the standard size and weight of the rollers (and any recommendations). Does Dr Pulley make sliders that fit?
Also what about these "unrestricted" CDI units - do they simply raise the rev limit a bit? Are they any good?

I'm not familiar with a People One 125. I suggest you verify what model you have and then go to the specific column for that model. Owners of the same model will have more insight as to what works or not for it. Variator (rollers or slider) mods have worked out very well for my People 150 and now my People GTI300. I think that would be a good starting point. You have to know what size you currently have to start with. If no one in this forum knows for sure, then you have to take apart yours and see what you have. Good Luck!

It's only done 900 miles! I bought it from a lady who tried it - but then decided to have a car instead. It has a very high quality feel and is very smooth to ride. Just needs a little more power I think. I rode it home on the motorway following my wife's car and she said I was flat out around 60-65MPH. 70MPH would be fine and a bit more brisk acceleration wouldn't hurt either!
As I understand it the Dr Pulley sliders give a larger range of gearing so if I choose the weights correctly then my acceleration would improve but I shouldn't lose top speed? I am guessing that a different CDI might raise the rev limit a little and I might gain a bit?
I don't want to take the engine to bits and I am not looking for a huge improvement.
There doesn't seem to be much info on this scooter on the internet - perhaps because it is a new model but I bet the engine must be used in other Kymco models?

Everything you said is correct. The engine will be in other 125I models. A CDI will do nothing however. They are not restricted, and the programing (ign curve) is set. You can contact HPI Ign.   HPI | Horse Power Ignition
http://www.hpi.be/  and ask them what they have for a Kymco 125I. These guys are TOP in the world at what they do.
The down side of dealing w/ them is they are so close to Amsterdam that they take ALOT of extended "holidays".
It's a golden opportunity for your bike if you can get together w/ HPI.

Next step is determine exactly what rollers are in your bike, and if they suit your need. Lighter is more rpm, and heavier is less. You can take your rollers to the local post office if you have to, and ask them to weigh a couple to get the weight. They are used to me doing this here.

Dr. Pulley does exactly what you hear. All good. BUT go one gram LIGHTER when you order yours. They "act " heavier than rollers.

After the roller deal is set start off dead stop, and run to top speed. Pay CLOSE attention to the "shift" feel, and rpms. You don't want to feel anything, or hear the rpm change.
Post up what you feel, and hear. I will be happy to walk thu cvt tuning w/ you.
