Scratches in windshield. What to do?

I recently scratched my windshield in a fall.  It's intact except for the scrapes.  They aren't too deep but you can feel them with your fingernail.  Is there a product, or technique I can use to smoothen them down without affecting the transparency of the shield?  The screen is the Givi D293ST.

You can find a multitude of products.  One is NOVUS.  Comes in
several mixes,  Polish, Fine, Medium, etc.  Around $6-7 a bottle.
Picked mine up at Harley Shop.  Beyond the material,  technique
is probably most important for a successful job.

2000 Grit sand paper with water. Scratch out wax. Buff at 500 rpm.

Is the plastic acrylic or PC.?

It's the GIVI D293ST.  Don't know if it's acrylic or PC.  I'm trying to find out on the i-net but haven't succeeded yet.  Still waiting for a response from GIVI.  Thanks for the tips.  By the way, GIVI Quebec said to use Slip Streamer 048-600(their code number) but only on acrylic.

Also, you can use the same stuff they use to clean plastic headlight lenses of cars.

Just heard from GIVI and they say the screen is a poly...There's some sort of coating inside and according to the rep it can't be fixed.  Of course this was the rep that said there was no model windshield of GIVI that would fit my bike.  I guess I'll try the sandpaper and see what happens on a small area.  Thanks everyone.

yep vivo.......save your money.......tooth paste works just as well.....yes scratches and yellowing of surface biggest problems....stay away from organic solvents when cleaning  the wind screen......

The problem is going to be the coating. I had a "helper" destroy a windscreen on a sail boat by rubbing thru the UV coating. I tend to agree with the ignorant dealer on this one. Better to leave it alone or replace it. You'll make the "scar" bigger.

I keep telling people Jeep softtop window cleaner will lightly remove scratches and other yuk:)

with flouride? mint? stripe? red? green?  Lol!  I've been using toothpaste since the 70's. Love to use 'em cleaning my white leather tennis shoes. I can't recommend toothpaste because I'm in the business of selling car care products Haha!

Thanks everyone.  I tried some of your suggetsions (sandpaper made it worse) and I couldn't find some of the products locally.  I took a last shot with something called PlastX that I found at Canadian Tire (there was this young kid who seemed to know everything) and before buying a new shield I spent $10.00 and gave it a try.  It worked beautifully. removed the original scratches and the hazing from the sandpaper.  Got lucky.

I had a mildly scratched windscreen. Thought I would try the toothpaste trick first, but did not have Crest, so used my Colgate. Bad move. The Colgate caused more mild scratching. Found some Meguirar's PlastX and tried that. Bingo!! Worked great.

+1 on the novus, i use this stuff on my acrylic aquarium too
