Lube Rollers ??
« on: May 30, 2014, 07:57:14 PM »
Pix from a video of a fellow working on his Honda PCX, but here I notice that  he is lubing the rollers before placing them in the ramps.
I have read that you do not lubricate these pieces... (grease can migrate to the belt or pulleys ?)
So, lube the rollers, or the ramps, or not?

If you are Drag Racing scooters that is acceptable. However it should be a Graphite base lube.

Otherwise is is detrimental to use any sort of lube on the rollers. It WILL attract, and hold grit/dirt/whatever, and a roller can easily dislodge, and break the variator.

Now ask how I know... >:(

The only thing that should be lubed is the drive boss, and that is ONLY on the FIRST install of a new boss/variator. Those parts are self lubing, and grease or oil interferes w/ that action.
Basically you wipe any type of oil/grease on the crank shaft, and wipe it back off. That prevents rust on the crank. Then you do the same w/ the outside of the drive boss. That tiny film is enough to begin the new parts working.

Well, there you go.....
You know Americans: If it's good - it'd be even better if you deep fried or greased it!
