That's what I was going to do (use the sticky tape). Mount one on each side of the cluster and run the wire straight up and make a small U shaped cut where the black and colored plastic meet and use a grommet to run the wire through. I could run the wire to the side and avoid harming the plastic at all but I was slightly worried about vibration on the wire over time and causing a short issue. That's why I wanted to use the rubber grommet between the two pieces of plastic. Am I overthinking it? Plus I didn't want it to look "jerryrigged" together.
I placed my tach down here, still in view (you won't be looking at it all the time since you're not changing gears!) ran the wire through the neck opening so it is in there with all the dozens of other wires bouncing around in the plastic. It is not rubbing on the bars so No issues.

You have the right idea.

I'm doing videos of the install. Not professional at all but I think you'll get the jist. This first one explains a little on how I plan to do it.

Started taking plastic off last night (frustrated!!!) Screws are stratefgically located so that you have to take other plastic of to get to the part you want to remove. Plus I think the floorboard is the first plastic piece put on so it is the last when removing. GGRRRR. Much more work than I anticipated.

Potential downside.
I don't even look at my speedo when riding ....for this reason.
I'm too tall, it is too far down. Full face helmet blocks out everything down there. But I would not ride with any other kind of protection. Been thinking about putting tiny lights on the mirror stalks so I'll see that I've left my turn signals on. Never seen a scooter dash that worked for anyone but little guys.

Stig, what did you set the pulse to? .5, 1.0 or 2.0?

At the default 1.0 I'm getting 2200 - 2400 RPM which is a little high. SM says 1700 +-100. Just don't want to stick this thing on and then frick it up trying to get it back off to change it.

Edit:5-22-14
I set it to 2.0 and it started at 1500 and settled at 1200 after a couple minutes. I think that's where it needs to be. When it was set to 1.0 and I was revving a little and then shut off it reported 7000 as a max. I doubt it was that much beings I just had it on the stand and maybe took it to 1/3 throttle.

I'm trying the 1.0 setting. I turned out the idle screw (3/4 turn counterclockwise) and that lowered the idle from 2500 to 1800. We'll see how see starts/idles over the next few days.
