SLIDER WEIGHTS
« on: July 10, 2014, 05:11:18 PM »
Hello All,

I am thinking about replacing the slider weights on my Super 8 as they are about 2 years old and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion on what weight is best for this scooter or what has worked best for them? I THINK I installed 14g sliders the last time I replaced them but I am not certain. By the way, in case it matters, I weight about 196 lbs. and the majority of my commute to and from work is on hilly and twisty farm roads. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

You said "I am thinking"
That scares most of us.

What brand sliders? Dr. Pulley?

Are you happy w/ the top speed rpm?

Lighter sliders/rollers will give more low rpm torque but higher top end rpm.
Heavier will decrease low end torque but also lower top end rpm.

What exactly do you need the bike to do? You stated hilly areas so I would think 1-2 gram lighter would be your best bet BUT if you ride extended 55+ roads lower rpm may be better for you.

It's a balancing act.

If your Super 8 is completely stock, I suggest going to 10 or 11 gram weights.

The Super 8 comes stock with 13 grams and I found those to be too heavy for the stock clutch torque spring.  When my Super 8 was stock, it felt like it went into high gear really quickly and accelerating would be slow.

To answer the questions:

1. Yes I am currently happy with my speed. I had once myself had myself clocked on radar at 67 mph by the state trooper who pulled me over. He luckily turned out to be an old Navy friend.

2. I wasn't specifically thinking of a particular brand of slider. The current ones are just your basic generic ones and they performed very well.

The main reason I am asking is because I wanted to see what weight slider other Super 8 owners were using because like I said, I forgot what size I installed in mine. I know that I could weigh them but I assume that once they get worn down, the weight will change. I could be wrong about this though.  I just wanted to see what others were using. Perhaps they had suggestions.

I forgot to add....besides my heavier duty coil / spark plug cable that I bought from Scooter Elements and an Iridium spark plug, my scooter is completely stock.

Drop one of the sliders on the scale at the post office. The cores carry all the weight. Might be .5gram light

If you want a little better acell go 1 gram lighter w/ the same brand or equal weight w/ Dr. Pulley.
To keep it where you are 1 gr heavier Dr. Pulley or same weight same brand.

Also don't go cheap, Dr. Pulley sliders are like $30 shipped for gy6. I would think with everything else stock 10g well rev wayyyy over the power band. If your happy with how it performs with your stock weights go for 13 out 14g Dr pulley s
2002 Kymco B&W 300; MRP 78MM "300CC", Naraku cam, Yoshimura rS3 exhaust, 17g Sliders, Yellow torque spring drilled airbox, stock carb #115 main #40 pj.

2001 "Yamaha" Zuma AKA MBK Booster; MHR OverRange, Dellorto 19mm BHBG, Polini "big" intake, RS-3 Rear shock, Stock cylinder.

maybe not 10 grams but I would probably go down to 11 grams because my Super 8 was super slow when it was stock.

I've since extensively modified my Transmission and am using 12 gram Dr. Pulleys and I still want to go down to 11 and possibly even a 10 gram weight.

It really is a set up/riding style kind of thing. OEM weight can be found on any of the Kymco Parts seller sites by looking at the CVT parts diagram. That's your base line setting. Forum information can be used as a guide to modify your performance curve from there.
