Favorite Bike
« on: July 18, 2014, 08:17:55 PM »
I was just going back an forth with Zombie on a different post about older bikes.   I have been riding since the pull start mini-bike days and my fondest and favorite memories come from a Honda Z50 trail bike.  I had more fun on this bike than any other.  I used to have to run it (physically run it) up and down the street to pop start it.  Capt. America helmet and life was good.  Any takers on their favorite bike.

SgtShak- This was my first brand new bike a Yamaha YDS-3 I bought it  in 1964 to ride to downtown LA to go to college. It would do 90mph in stock form but after I installed hotter heads and expansion chambers it would top 100! Not bad for a 60s two-stroker. :)

Mine was a brand new CT70 Honda in 73. Had more fun on that thing, great memories. It was around $400 out the door. It was a 13yos pride and joy.

THE CT70....That's what a graduated to after my Z50.  Same thing.....Lots of open fields and trails and a cruise around the block didn't justify a call to the police.  I wish I had those same situations for my 15 yr old.    I think it's cool that so far we all chose the smaller bikes.  Probably why we all enjoy scooters so much.  I wonder what made the manufacturers keep trying to go bigger & bigger.

Keep writing in........the memories are great!

1978 Maico 490

That was the best bike I have ever owned. Did a bolt by bolt restoration on it in '84, and it lived in my living room. I eventually traded it for a '77 Trans Am.
Should have kept the bike...

It looks like a lot of us started with the small Honda's. My first bike was a Honda 90. Wish I still had it. Lots of good memories from long ago.

My First bike was a Hodaka Ace 90. I forget what year the bike was but I paid $35.00 from the local Bike shop. I bought it in boxes, and had it running the next weekend. Turned out to be faster than my Buds yz 125.
Nice thread Sarge.

I moved on to a little Kawasaki 75,  Don't remember the model and it is very difficult to find on the web.  It was similar to the Z50 with the fold down bars etc...just a little bigger.  But that bike was so cool.  I could run circles around my friends who were on the KE100 & DT100's.  Then this girl who we used to ride the trails with showed up on a brand new, shinny Husqvarna 250.....She was a Goddess.  She could have been riding a Big Wheel and still would have been hot!  That was the first fork in the road between riding and women.  Someday I'll choose.

My first was a Heathkit Boonie Bike--a five horsepower fat tired minibike with a two speed transmission.  Had to stop completely to shift it.  Came as a completely disassembled kit.  Learned to ride on it in 1971 and then graduated to a brand new 1973 Kawasaki G4 100.  Chrome fenders, dual range 5 speed transmission, factory knobbies and full street legal lighting. Paid for both with grass cutting and a paper route.  Good memories.

My first bike was a 2013 KYMCO Super8 150. Yep got it when I was only 47 years old. With my birthday this past sunday it's gotten me to the ripe old age of 48 and hopefully many more to come. Needless to say, it's my favorite so far.  :P

I had a few mini-bikes and then a 125cc Puch from Germany, it was a 1957 model, 2 stroke. I rode these on the dirt trails around where I lived.

My first store-bought, new streetbike was a 1962 Honda C110, 50cc with a real clutch and a 4 speed. It was the model that had the gas tank in the typical place.

Right now I have a 2012 Goldwing and my 2013 Xciting 500.

I promised myself that someday I will own a Goldwing.  My riding style just doesn't justify it right now.  I look at them regularly.  I was actually offered a test ride by a dealer the other day but I turned it down because I know my weaknesses for new bikes.
