My first longer ride.
« on: May 18, 2014, 07:59:19 PM »
;D I took my GrandVista for a 40 mile ride today. This scooter is no toy. Acceleration is much better then I expected. The wind in my face was horrible, had to wear goggles. Ordered the taller GIVI windshield. Cruised the back roads between 50 and 60mph. Still a little slow in the curves. More riding will fix that. Need to check rear stock setting, scoot is a little rough an a bumpy road. Very, very happy with my Dink.

Glad you like the GV250.  This scooter works best at freeway speeds.
You should always wear eye protection becasue even a good  windshield will not stop all trash from hitting you in the face.
The stock wind screen does a good job if you wear a helmet with a face shield.

Ride safely and have fun,

I ride on the highway most of the time and I love the scoot with the super tall Givi wind screen.  Ride is downright harsh.  This is due to coil springs that are too stiff even for me and I weigh 165lbs.  12" tires also make things harsh.  Take your time in the corners.  Remember, the lean angle due to the small tires is very limited.  I scrap the center stand in the corners all the time also corning and or braking on rough pavement can be scary and don't forget to really look at the pavement surface and if you can really see it due to on coming cars or night conditions slow down.

Enjoy your GV - overall a great balance of wieght, power price and handling etc.

I purchased my first scooter, a 2004 Grand Vista about a week ago.
The small wheels, as compared to a motorcycle, will take some getting used to.
My other bike is a Kawasaki KLR 650, quite a bit different as far as ride height.
I have to straighten out a few fuel related issues in order to get some real miles logged but so far the few 6-8 mile rides I have taken are a blast, looking forward to more real soon!

Welcome to the GV250!  After driving my 2005 daily for three years I rate this scooter as excellent overall but there is room for improvement.

HUGE difference from the KLR 650 - I had a '94 Honda xrl 650.  Both bikes practically require a ladder to get on the seat.  It is important to remember that the small wheels on the scooter and the ultra harsh ride over bumps means it is important to stand up if you approach a dip or manhole cover etc.

My videos will help you iron out the clogging that comes from sitting.  The Keihin carb on the GV has a very very small passage from the pilot jet to where it enters the carb so off idle hesitation is a common issue.
