Fuel Shutoff valve - worth it ?
« on: September 14, 2014, 02:03:13 PM »
A guy on youtube added a fuel shut off valve to his super-9

He claims it helps keep the carb clean. Would this be worth a good addition and does it really keep the carb clean ?

You can cut the supply of fuel to the carb but, there would still be gas in the carb.
I guess one could cut the fuel supply then run the carb and engine completely dry.
A good carb/injector cleaner will do the same thing with less hastle.

There's no real advantage. I'm assuming he couldn't locate a replacement for the vacuum petcock, and added that instead.
If you want to run the carb dry just pull off the vacuum line.

Ah Zombie, I can see it as a theft control though. If the valve is shut of and not easily seen, someone quickly riding away with your scooter will be in for a surprise when it runs out of fuel.

Also a shutoff valve saved my life a long time ago when my buddy let me ride his supped up trailblazer and I was just going out of control off into the woods when it died out. He forgot to turn on the valve for me.

Valid points. Along the same lines you could paint a zebra brown, and call it a donkey.
I just don't see the need. ;)
