Kevlar Belts?
« on: October 03, 2009, 10:15:44 PM »
I read another post recommending the use of a Kevlar belt. Personally, I have to recommend against that.

I tried a Pollini on my Vino 50 and, as you can see from the pictures the results were less than ideal. After about 2000 miles the belt disintegrated. Untangling the strings from the pulleys proved to be impossible for me. Rubber and string residue got into everything. I ended up sending it to a shop and we never did get the kick-starter to work right after that.

As a side note, before it failed I experienced a slight performance loss. I believe this was due to the fact that the Kevlar belt was stiffer than the stock one.

I replaced the stock belt on my zx50 with a Malossi kevlar.  I got some fuzz like that after the first week or so.  I'm assuming it was caused by the belt seating into the taper of the pulleys.  It was not anything like yours though!  I cleaned it out, I could blow most of mine out, and it has been fine since.  Seems to perform better also, especially under acceleration.  I would have to give it a thumbs up!

There's more to ADV. than application. If a SUPPLIER has a better part , It fits the part it was made for!!! A joe Jackson belt won't fit an Al Green pulley! All parts should be matched to each other in order to do what they do best. The Malossi Trans. set up has a different belt size than the standard Kymco set up It's almost the same thing w/ tire . At the same time I am sure the other Manuf. have m0ore worries than I do. Just saying...Match your parts, and they will work better!

I always recommend sticking with OEM parts.  When you start modifying or swapping, things tend to go wrong or can cause headaches later.
