Retired, but determined to keep moving
« on: September 06, 2019, 11:13:49 AM »
I retired 3 yrs ago. Still get up at 5:15AM.

Watched The Intern, a chick-flick with teen daughter & wife.
70 yr old, retired, widowed, Robert de Niro lives in Brooklyn, gets up, and dressed and is out of his apt. to walk to his local Starbucks "every morning by 7:15"...just to keep moving. Sits with s coffee, paper and a pastry.
Daughter looked at me...., "6:45am in Dino's, right Pop, with those other guys?"

I see a guy who does the same thing at Tim Hortons. Every morning, before sunrise. Comes in with his newspaper. Has a coffee and a muffin. Sometimes stops to talk scooters with me when I'm there on the patio.

There are 4 guys sitting around a table at Dinos right now, doing the same thing.
Hope you guys also have some way to get yourselves out and into the world most days?
Especially you single guys.

Just a thought. ...

You Betcha - gotta keep moving.  I get up, get the coffee and check the interwebs, and then head off to "class".  Local Agency on Aging has exercise classes - I head off to Tai Chi, Yoga, and Aerobics. One or two classes per day.
When the weather allows, I'm the old guy on the scooter..... :)

That is actually why I bought the scooter. I'm 62 and rise three hours before my wife. I like reading whodunit mysteries, so my plan is to ride my scooter to McDonalds (no Dino's here) every morning and start writing them. If there's no inspiration to write, then I'm left with a belly full of coffee, two hours to kill, and 163 cc's of scooter fun waiting to explore the twists and turns of south San Diego.

Good post Stig

Although I’m not retired yet and my scooter is primarily for work commute, I keep busy by walking with a slight jog.  I bicycle sometimes as well and try to hit the gym.  In my profession I need to stay somewhat fit.

My monster of a Suzuki is suitable for me right now but later it may be traded in for something less heavy and more relaxing when I retire.   Wife and I just purchased a new Nissan ProX-4 diesel that we plan on keeping throughout our retirement.   We’ve had it since March and we’ve barely put on 3600 miles.   Travel trailer in the future for us two.    Although we have plenty of coffee houses around here in my area, my wife and I love to sit at home, drink coffee and just enjoy each other’s company for now.

Due to our bad economy I was forced to retire at 62. That was two years ago. I am way too young just to sit at home. Got involved in some kind of hobby and due to public interest I started working longer hours than ever before. Hardly ever get in bed before 12 at night, and at 6 in the mornings I'm having breakfast and a cup of coffee with my wife.

The lil' scooter keep me moving around town as well. Compared to motorcycle riding I'm doing less kms these days, but I'm determent to stick to handle bars as long as possible. Using anything with four wheels for daily commuting is just not for me. Riding keeps me young, and always reminds me about my bicycle riding as a kid, and my first scooter almost 50 years ago.
Life is a journey. Just spend some time, and enjoy the trip.

I retired a few months ago just after my 61st birthday.  Work was getting in the way of my riding!

when I was 75 on Dr.s prescription drugs, had a car bang up , they removed my licence,  installed new hips no more drugs , and I can walk again,.  bought a elec. scooter, rode it for 2 years, got my licence back and bought my downtown 300 i.   refused any drugs for pain now, I would rather ride my scooters now no matter what, 86 now and if I don't feel well I go for a ride,   I still have trouble walking., guess I don't ride enough.,

I am 80 active, retired at 71----am always busy, don't drink much coffee or sit in McDonalds---lots of coffee you have to pee a lot----Riding is what I do here in spite of heat----south, cannot ski or get good tap beer and going out to eat food is terrible.   Working on bike without using lift is good exercise.
