did I pay too much??
« on: November 17, 2014, 04:35:12 PM »
Decided to stop by the kymco dealer today.  Bought a piston,  rings, and gaskets.  Paid 105 bucks.  Was that too much for oem parts?  If not is there a guide of proper installation for the liquid cooled? I was being hasty but thought about it on the way home and I feel as if I could've gotten cheaper online or just waited a bit to do the big bore.

That's not too bad, is your cylinder in good shape tho?

I'm not sure yet.  I'm hesitant on tearing it down yet.  I don't want to go in blind.  I've tore down four stroke air cooled fifties,  not a liquid cooled.  I assume I need to drain the coolant first.  After that it should be basic?

Yeah the s9 is like a 30 minute tear down haha, there's nothing to that little cylinder. You should have spent $100 more and gotten a 70cc tho

That's another reason I'm hesitant.  I'm thinking about holding off,  taking it back, and going for the bbk.  I kinda want to check out what I'm working with though.  If I do the rings I'd have to do the piston and gaskets all in one shot too,  right?

Well that depends, if your piston is fine then yeah rings and gaskets. But its a little pointless to do rings without honing the cylinder to get a nice fresh surface for the new rings to seat correctly. I would just do the BBK especially if your looking for a bit more power out of the scoot. 70cc is easy, and reliable if you stay with a sport kit with dual rings and cast iron. If you leave the exhaust and intake alone it'll be just as reliable as stock.

Well,  you've talked me into it.  Not much arm twisting.  I just wish it was at least equally as powerful as my crap scooter.  I can't stand that little thing. Even though it's nice to blow past newer, nicer scoots on my rattle ridden ugly beast.

If you do the 70cc right it should blow by any other 50cc out there. How many KMs are on your S9? If you have poor performance you should check all the usual stuff too otherwise the 70cc won't help your performance much. Belt new? Rollers new? Using good 2t Oil? New plug? Fresh final drive oil? Air pressure up to spec or above? All of these will hurt performance. You should see 45-50 stock with the l/c Super 9 if you aren't then find whats holding you back first. If you have over 10,000km it might be your top end.

New bando belt,  replaced the variator with a used one due to the old one having grooves, the plug is relatively new and has a nice coffee color, rollers aren't perfect,  but I am going to get sliders soon,  I need to check/change the gear oil (just bought the scoot used), air pressure is fine, synthetic blend 2t oil,  green wire disconnected cdi, stock pipe with the extra tube cut and welded,  pipe had holes drilled in the end but I sealed them back up,  I would like to try a new bigger main jet (current is unmarked), new fuel filter, air filter is good.

It has 14k miles and low compression,  reason for my piston and ring purchase.  I haven't gotten a good flat ground GPS speed due to the recent excessive wind and my clutch issue that I just resolved. I have had the speedometer past the numbers,  on a mild incline, running a little above 7k rpm.  But uphill loses power drastically,  cutting down to twenty or less,  places that my taotao goes thirty.
