2012 Super 8 150 won't turn on..
« on: November 14, 2014, 01:27:56 AM »
So the day before yesterday I took my 2012 Super 8 150 for what I figured would be the last ride of the season.  It started right up and gave me zero problems on our couple mile jog.  This afternoon I went to start it up as I was going to try running the remaining gas out, and nothing,  I have no clock, lights or anything.  I checked the battery, which I just replaced this fall, and it is showing 12.48 volts.  I also checked the 3 fuses, and they are all fine as well.  I'm at a loss what could be the problem, or even where to look next.  The scooter is only 2 years old, has a little over 500 miles, and other than washing it a couple times this past summer, it is always kept inside.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I am mechanically inclined and would prefer to fix it myself as opposed to loading it up and taking it to the dealer.  Besides, from what the owners manual reads, electrical isn't covered for 2 years like most everything else.

Thanks,
Jr

12.4 is slightly low on static voltage, you won't know anything until you load test the battery. I've had batteries be around 12.5 static but under load drop well below the 10v mark. Hook your multi-meter up and look at the voltage when you turn the key on, see if it changes. If it does nothing at all you could possibly have a bad ignition switch or dirty contacts on the connector. Take off the little triangle front cover and check that there is battery voltage going into the ignition connector, then check after the switch with it turned on and see if the switch is turning "on". That's where I would start.

Do you have a voltmeter/test light? Are fuses getting power? I'd suspect the ignition switch. Super8 is a simple creature. I'd start there. Any lights working, head/tail/turn. No power anywhere the iggy switch might be it especially if battery v is good. Batt connections tight and clean?

I do have a voltmeter and will test to see if I have power to and past the fuses.  Would a bad ignition switch kill the power even to the clock though?
