Throttling problems
« on: September 04, 2010, 12:45:22 PM »
I just bought my wife and I 2010 Super8 4T and we love them. Recently my wife's S8 started having throttling problems. At full throttle, it would just drop out to an idle at a moments notice and then come back again after dropping speed. There's only 250 miles on it and is not de-restricted yet. Temp, length of ride time, etc. doesn't seem to matter, it'll run great one day and the next time we take it out, it will run good and then cut out.  Any ideas what it might be?

..could be trash in the carb / fuel system...

..could be a vacuum leak, closing off the fuel petcock..

..definately a warranty issue tho..

Welcome to the forum! Intermitent,  could be a number of things, fuel, water in the tank carb, loose spark plug cap,vac lines to more seriouse electrical problems. If under warranty have them take a look at it. I know a few people have had some ground wire issues with some of the new bikes. Once settled you'll love your new kymco'S  ;)

Thanks for the welcome and the info.
Going out there after this to take a look at all your suggestion. It's just the weirdest thing that is happening. Today we had them out and it ran good. I ride behind when it starts to happen and there is no missing, backfiring or anything that sound like it is starving of fuel. It just loses power and sounds like it is at idle. Thanks again! Now I'm off to the garage.

One more thought vaper lock next time it happens loosen the gas cap to see if it has any pressure build up (vacuum) the cap may not be venting right.

I thought of vapor lock, but it has happen at night too.
I went thru all the recommendations you guys gave me yesterday and I didn't really find anything wrong, except for the connection on the battery being a tad loose. I tightened them by only a 1/4 turn or so. Now the headlights go off after the bike is started. Do you know off hand where the main ground connection are?

Not sure about yours but usually under the front shield and somwhere at the frame around the battery housing.
