..it's like ur damned if you do and damned if you don't..
« on: October 24, 2009, 07:53:16 PM »
...so it's 39 degrees F in the morning...

..80 degrees on the ride home...

..with the stock airbox, there was a difference in performance, that I now know was due to air density and air/fuel mixture..

..with the K&N high flow air filter, the difference in performance from morning to afternoon is amplified..

..how the heck are you supposed to tune that??

..I'm almost tempted to re-jet back to an 85 and re-install the stock box until cold weather sets in...

IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!  :o

I have seen where you can adapt a tube from the engine shroud to the intake. A 1/2" tube running to a point as close to the carb inlet as possible will give you just enough pre heated air to make the diff. As soon as I saw the subject I knew it HAD to be you. I give you credit for riding all year, I do also. We have a few more warm days than you though. That shroud has quite a bit of preasure inside it so you can get a good amount of warm air out of it

I think it was a post on Josh's site Scooter Invasion, Refering to reducing intake noise w/ a forced air set up. What got ME, was the fact the preheated air would Poss. create an unwanted result. In YOUR case it may be THE answer. There were some Picts. of a 1/2" copper tube epoxy sealed into the shroud (anywhere it fits would be ok) and a rubber hose going to the intake (again anywhere you can rig it) I have a rubber sleeve between the filter and the intake. I think w/ $2.00 worth of parts, and a couple hours, you may be a HAPPY scooter again. Just sort of fell together when I saw your post...

That's not a bad idea!  It is like the heat riser found on some of the '80's carbureted cars I have owned!
