Be the jump! I remember... About the same time period I gulped down a pint of Southern Comfort, and threw the bottle as hard as I thought I could at a telephone pole.
It bounced straight back, and the open end hit me square between the eyes. I had a quarter sized perfect circle for two weeks. Fading from pure black to a piss yellow.
40 years later I can still feel the two dents in that ridge bone right in the middle of my eyes.

I have a gazillion more stories... Unfortunately I did miss out on Band Camp. I was busy hiding the daughter of the CEO of Kellogg's that summer. (yes willingly) ;) If I posted her name you would all know who she is.

Every word of it 100% accurate. And there was sooooooo much more.
At 5yo I would walk away from the hand holding line walking to kindergarten. I'd go straight down the hill to the city bus. Sometimes I'd wind up in Coney Island, and others China Town.

I'd make money by finding the tallest building, and pushing the elevator buttons for people. Usually a nickle per ride.
In 1-2 hours I'd make enough for a slice of Pizza, vanilla shake, and return bus fair. (the bus was a dime token, the pizza 25 cents, and the shake 50.

Most days I'd be home by dark 4-5ish. Five years old.
