New Dudds
« on: March 10, 2015, 01:25:52 AM »
Finishing my second year of scootering....so looking to upgrade some of my riding gear.
What I want is a 4XL Hi-Vis helmet and a 4XL Hi-Viz armored jacket.
The helmet I cannot do much about , unless I want to switch to contacts. Not going to happen.
I have to have a modular helmet to make it work with spectacles....no flip down sunglass inner visor for the same reason. Nobody makes a 4XL modular helmet except HJC, and not in Hi-Viz - so, I have the white one..

The jacket I have is an open mesh tex First gear 4XL Hi-Viz. It is a summer weight jacket, with good reflectivity, but one that I have to layer the snot out of to wear on 0 degree days. So, looking to upgrade to a better, textile or leather, armored 3 or 4 season jacket.
Nearly impossible to find a 4XL Hi-Viz textile jacket - and very few 4XL leather jackets in any color but black by quality makers and not in a 'racer' cut.
Seems to be down to these 2, both by ICON.
Leather,

Textile
The leather is amazingly avail. in a 5XL, as well! Would add a mil-spec reflective/hi-viz vest over the leather Icon.
ICON products in this 'relaxed' size range should give me room to layer, if needed.  Figure either jacket will last out my riding life.

Try to wait out the "end of season sales.

The leather coat looks really nice and classy. I just wish it had some Hi-Viz patches on it.

You can always have your helmet painted.

You can always have your helmet painted.
Have thought about painting my helmet....but bright white is pretty good too in most light conditions.
Also, I'd just like a 'better' helmet - but stuck by my size. Don't know any easy way to lose inches off my head.
So good to be riding again in decent temps ....extended my ride home today even in a steady rain.
It was 4 degrees this time last week. 50 something today. Found out that the Honda spray wax does next to nothing to shed the rain on my visor. Back to Rain Coat, or whatever it's called, stored under my seat.Really like this lighted top case in the dark commutes, and the rides home in the rain. (Bestem 929 -- simply THE best safety addition to my scooter riding. Cannot bring myself to hang one on the Honda. (I mount the Honda like a bike - and would be kicking any top case if installed back there)

Spray waxes for the most part are silicone based, and will not last.

Any good Canuba wax is the only Real way to go. It will last on the visor, inside, and out.

If you lift up the toilet seat to pee, you can certainly step thru on the Honda.
