Spark plug wire
« on: April 29, 2015, 11:08:30 PM »
I'm riding down a main street when my new Agility 125 suddenly dies. Nothing. I pull over and try every trick I know. Nothing. It turns over but it's not going to start. It's under warranty so I call the dealership. They come pick up the bike and me. Back as the shop several things are tried until the gentleman suddenly has a flash. Yep, the spark plug cap has come loose. My question.....has anybody else experienced this? Do I need to crip the cap down or was it a careless mistake from the service people? Thank you in advance for comments.

It depends, was the cap dislodged from the wire, or was the cap off the spark plug itself? Possibly they did not push it on all the way during the PDI. The routing could be wrong, and pull on the wire when you go over hard bumps. You can get the NGK plug caps for about $10 and they work great, when you push the plug cap on it should make a really nice "zzzzzt" ratchet sound and take some effort to pull it off.

The cap had come off the plug. I'm going to assume it was a service error. When it comes to to change plugs, I will look into the cap you recommend. Thank you for your help.

the exact same thing happened to my bike at about the 30K point. I'm not sure it's a huge problem, but if it fails again I'll prolly try the NGK. B&L, is that something you buy at the auto parts store?

I bought the iridium version of my NGK plug at O'Reilly autoparts for @$7, they had it for me the next day.
Your Kymco probably already has a NGK or DENSO in there already. Both are very good Japanese spark plugs.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Okay, the spark plug cap came off the plug for the second time yesterday. I was in heavy traffic and it was a scary situation to say the  least. The dealership had put the wire back on the plug after the first insident and we assumed it just hadn't be put on properly the first time. Nope. I called the shop and, to be honest, they were horrified. It's in the shop getting a new plug and cap today. I could do it, but since it's still under warranty I'll let the experts fix it for free.  Just thought I would pass on this information. I love the bike and I have no doubt there will be many miles of trouble free riding in the future.
