High Octane Gas
« on: May 28, 2015, 09:28:10 PM »
I believe the Like 200i manual dictated premium gas for the tank. How important is this? I mean in the long run its a few cents extra. I was just curious. On a similar note, is there an additive or something I could be doing to prolong the engine life?

I use brand name gas, 91 (or higher) octane. These brand name fuels offer more clean engine additives (approved fuels for many high end autos) than billybobs econo stations. If your Audi Turbo's  owner's manual lists BillyBob's - then it's OK for a scooter, if not - why chance it?
It is your scoot - but when I am riding regularly each week, I add nothing to the fuel tank or the oil. Just use good stuff (keep the valves adjusted, tires properly aired) and change that less-than-a-quart of oil very often (600 miles for me) It's only a Qt....cheap scooter insurance, don't cheap out - use good stuff. It will last a good long time with out additives (which may or may not do anything) In the winter follow the manual's instructions for sitting it idle. Me, I layer up and ride it.

I use midgrade gas, here in the high country that's 87 octane. 85/89 are the other choices. I only buy Shell or Conoco gas because I believe they have added cleaners in them. Would buy Chevron but nothing is close to me.

So have I, Obark. Check some of the really old threads on this forum as this subject has gone around more times than your front wheel. Most of the owners manuals say 91 minimum but the stickers inside the undersea storage say 87 R plus N/2.
