Rear Brake

When releasing the handbrake after my bike has been standing for a while, there is a horrible grinding noise almost as if the brake pads are rubbing the disc. The disc has a very slight warp as this grinding sound only occurs at a certain spot. The pads are still fine. Is there a way to lubricate the handbrake cable? After I have washed the bike this noise does not occur but returns once everything is dry. My thought is that the cable is sticking somewhere. Anyone else experienced this?

 the same thing happens with my car , dirt build-up on disc, or rust, grind away for first few stops ,then all is quite,.  guess I should drive it more than once a month, or get rid of it,

The back brake is CABLE operated? You sure it is not hydraulic?

Just checked www.motorcyclespecs.com and both front and rear brakes are hydraulic. No cable.

Yes it's hydraulic. Try blowing it out with compressed air and see if that takes care of it.

I'd bet he's referring to the parking brake on his 500.  It is cable operated.

If it's bad enough, you might need to replace the cable though. And make sure that you don't lubricate your brakes.

It's unclear from your description, but it could also be that the back of the pad and pins need cleaning and brake grease.

Another reason for a grinding sound would be something between the pad and the rotor grinding a groove in the rotor.

Just an update: replaced warped disc and pads. Vibration noise continues around whole disc. Turns out its the 'anti rattle clip' because when I hold it the noise stops. Any ideas on how to get rid of this noise?

Oh, I have that too, and it has been like that for months, i even changed the caliper but it is there.

A successful update: there are two clips that hold the pads, the one at the bottom is called the Pad Spring and the one at the top is the Retainer. I took the Retainer out and cleaned all the gunge off (this clip was not replaced like the Pad Spring) and reassembled. Noise has gone, so give that a try. See the workshop manual for Xciting 500/500 AFI 250/250 AFI section 17 page 27.
