Kymco seats suck!
« on: June 09, 2015, 07:38:07 PM »
After a 50 mile ride my butt was numb and ached, dichotomy I know but it's the fuggin truth. This problem is going to go away 1 way or another. Not sure what right now, I'm not a happy camper.......even with the gel pad and padded cover! Would be totally unacceptable without those.

Yep!! Its like getting paddled back in elementary school. I went to school in Georgia in the 60's and paddling was allowed. Actually they had a big paddle like a "sawed off" baseball bat if you were really bad;  this guy Terry always got the big paddle; I swear he had an iron butt as he didn't flinch.

But I bet Terry would be complaining too if he had a Kymco scooter.

I love my LIKE200i....but used to have to get off it after 40mins max.
Then I rebuilt the seat ......adding so much foam to the thickness and width of the seat that I do not ever think about the seat any longer.
I rebuilt over the existing foam....glueing and shaping and TESTING it until I liked it - then recovered it with some SailRite 4Way stretch vinyl - not before!
I also noticed after some time that I quit thinking about getting better rear shocks!
If your seat makes you happy - the rear shocks situation becomes a non-issue.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Yes stig you have 1 of those bunz of steel, we know. LOL there's a Mexican guy I found on craigs who does uhpohlstry[?] work and I might give him a shot. He quoted me $75 estimate over the phone. I don't mind paying more, but I want to see the materials used and examples of his work. I do not want a butchered seat looking like crap. I want comfy too, we'll see. There are no kymco 250s/300s to be had here now locally, not to my liking.

You are sitting on a seat that is vibrating while the engine is running from 0 MPH to what every speed your scoot can do and after 40 plus minute of riding in can be a numb in the butt

It's not just Kymco seats.  Most modern motorcycle and scooter seats suck.  That's why there are so many makers of aftermarket seats and seat pads.  Most seats seem to be made to look good on the showroom floor.  I have 5 bikes and only one came with a truly comfortable seat.  The seat on my Aprilia Sport City 250 is outstanding, at least the rider portion of the seat.  The passenger part not so much so.

Overall however, it seems to me that scooter seats tend to be better than motorcycle seats.  The seat on my Kymco Super 8 is actually not too bad.  It's fine for rides of an hour or less.

Most (if not all) Kymco scooter seats are hard as a rock. The upside? The vinyl they use is outstanding & will stand the test of time over the years. Score an "Airhawk" seat cushion. They run from $75.00-$125.00 I had mine custom done locally for my GT300i & it came out great. Super soft (yet semi-firm) gel. Makes all the difference. It did cost me $165.00, so that's the downside.
