Battery Replacement Question
« on: September 28, 2015, 02:06:57 PM »
I sold my Kymco Super 8 to my mothers neighbor down in Florida. He's older & doesn't have a clue about fixing anything. I decided his OEM battery was shot. I'm leaving tomorrow to see my mother & I'll install the new battery for him. BTW...Scorpion batteries rock for the money.

My question is this.....Do I just unscrew the two screws on the plastic plate & pop-out the cover? If you look @ this video here:

You'll notice @ 56 seconds with the video, he's pulling the entire seat out. I don't think this is required as he getting @ the carb & cylinder head.

Any insight? If you are just taking the two screws out, does it pop-off easily?

Thanks All!

Just remove the 2 screws and pop off the cover.  You'll probably need to use a screwdriver to pry it off.  No need to remove anything else.

Klaviator: Thank you from the man that has many miles on his Super 8! Seems like batteries max life is 3 years down in Southern Florida. $32.00 for a Scorpion AGM delivered is short money.

Two screws and it pops off. I replaced my battery with a lithium iron battery (car version of lithium ion). Expensive but super light weight and it has twice the amp hours of the original battery and it still nearly half the size. I have the extra juice on colder starts and it has a longer warranty than 3 years... about 7 I think. I also recommend getting a trickle charger for scooter batteries. Easy to add with the 2 screws off and will prevent the battery from prematurely wearing out.
I will ski till Hell freezes over... then I will have no fear of death.
