Cdi shopping
« on: October 24, 2015, 04:09:24 AM »
Since mine burnt up, I suppose I'll need a new one.  But I've heard that the dc cdi for mine is not widely interchangeable.  It had an Eton cdi on it when I bought it, but I had the guy swap it for the original Kymco with the wire that unplugs.
Anyone have experience with this subject?  I don't want to order anything that I'm not going to be able to use. Maybe I'll look into wiring it up to AC...

As I've researched it seems only very early LC bikes were DC. All others are AC. Some AC CDI are the large DC style but are in fact AC. ( this is the case with mine).  I have a spare orange CDI you can have to get you running. I'm currently using a Casoli big bodied aluminum AC unit. Disipates heat well :) Check Aliexpress.com. I got mine for around $12 IIRCC. usually they're around 30 for the Casoli. Most "performance" CDI are around 9-12 shipped.

This is a drawing I swiped from the net,  this is the way my connectors from the bike are.  Here is a pic of the cdi connector.
If that's what you have I'd appreciate getting to try it,  I can get you my address and PayPal you shipping cost, etc.  I've considered trying to find one of the adjustable one's for it.  Not sure if it would have an advantage,  but I would have another thing that I could throw into the speech I give about how awesome my bike is.  Another thing to confuse the people away from the fact that it is a scooter.
