New shocks and seat surgery = new Yager
« on: April 21, 2015, 09:19:04 PM »
Just got back from 2 days of riding the mountains of Tennessee and the Carolina's, and all I can say is wow.
Before my butt would start hurting after 30 min on the stock seat, and the rear shocks would transmit every big bump straight up my spine.
Rebuilding the seat and adding some YSS shocks had my back and butt in bliss after 12 hours of seat time.
Definitely worth the effort.

This is good to hear.  I've been thinking of taking my Yager on a longish trip (200+ miles in 2 days) on 40-55mph country roads.  But the seat (which is fine around town) worries me.  I may just put an ATV seat pad on it and see what happens.

Which shock, and a picture of the seat please! It is rare in my scoot forums reading that I find a replacement shock that definitely shows an improvement in the rear ride of a scooter.
Thanks, Stig

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Old shock.

Closeup.

YSS shock.

Could not find a 320mm shock for the Yager, so went with a 330mm one for a People S 200i.
PN19438.   The difference in comfort is night and day. Excellent control, firm without being harsh.

The seat.
Looks normal on the outside.

Some changes on the underside.

I cut out the plastic meant for helmet space, cut 2 cutting boards to shape, sandwiched a piece of plexiglass the thickness of the original plastic between them.
Glued and screwed everything together, and hollowed out the original seat foam for 3 layers of Walmart exercise foam.
Sounds crude but am very pleased with the results.

After a little more digging it seems YSS does make 320mm shocks for the Yager.

Nice work! I loved my Yager. Only thing I hated was that darn seat. It was by far the most uncomfortable thing I had sat on for a motorcycle or scooter ever. It was not kind to the rear or man parts at all lol

I just got a set of the YSS Nitrogen shocks for my '71 Honda CL, I love them so far. I don't think they will last all that long, but $100 for shocks is so cheap even if they only last a year. I need to get a set for my B&W, that thing bounces really bad when loaded with touring gear.

As far as the seat I'm either using an Alaska Sheepskin buttpad or a Buttbuffer plus I may have Spencer add supracore  http://greatdaytoride.com/site/00e93f021be4469c879d7491d38c20dc/home?url=http%3A%2F%2Fgreatdaytoride.com%2FHome_Page.php#2876
