Kymco Sento 50cc engine swap
« on: October 19, 2015, 07:44:10 AM »
The variator on my 2010 Kymco Sento 50cc 4T exploded, puncturing the crankcase.  Kymco lists a  replacement crankcase at over $700, and a complete engine for $1500.  I took a chance and ordered a complete gy6 50cc Chinese engine from ScrappyDog scooter parts for $329. The engine came 2 days later by FedEx, and it fit my Kymco perfectly.  The gy6 came with a generic stator which I swapped for the Kymco stator & flywheel, and it fired up no problem.

Could you please post  a couple of pictures of the swap?   I'd love to see it.
Less chit chat, more riding.

Actually it looks just the same as the old one, except it doesn't say "KYMCO" on the left side.  It also has a "QMB139" serial number now instead of the Kymco "SD10E" serial number.  I've attached a photo of the crankcase behind the variator after the variator exploded.  You can see the gash in the crankcase around the crankshaft.
