If you spend the 60-70 bucks for a good aftermarket... You will find out. A Kymco replacement cost as much as a Malossi, and does 1/2 the job. Just stay away from the Ebay Chinese crap. They will only last 1/2 as long. NYC, Polinni, Malossi - all good. I think Dr. pully, and Leo vince also have a good product. Perhaps Dr. Moto w/ a 10% dis-count would be a good source. Malossi usa on line is the cheapest malossi you can get.

I don't think it looks that bad.

Here's a page that might help some.   http://www.beedspeed.com/html-pages/HowToFitVariatorAndRollerWeights.htm    There is a part marked #5 It is a nylon wedge that is supposed to prevent the wear you are showing. Do you have the wedges installed? They would ALL have to be worn to get that kind of contact. Try turning the parts to a new orientation so It cannot repeat. That is just a casting boss that will not hurt anything if you can find a way to avoid contact there. You can try to turn  your wedges over if they are worn to get a little more life out of them. I just replaced mine after 2 1/2 years, and they were still usable so try taking a close look at how that happened.

I would agree with Zombie, it does look like your wedges are worn.  I don't think that worn spot on the variator will cause any loss of performance.  Is that the only spot worn like that?

..the wedges look ok, but obviously they're worn...all three boss' are worn in the same manner..

..i've had the variator apart so many times, i dunno if the wedges are in any kind of relative position...they've been swapped around i'm sure...anyway, I cleaned up the rough spots with a little file..

..what I figure is, that running the three rollers in the slots that are angled forward might have caused the damage..maybe letting the ramp plate wobble around a bit, thus wearing the wedges.........

...so just for grins and giggles...and because i reckon I just had to know...I tried the three 9 gr roller setup again...

..when the rollers were in the angled slots, there was a noticable decrease in performance as compared to when I ran them in the straight out oriented slots...

..there was also a considerable bit more vibration....

...HOWEVER!!!!...

..the scoot was super quick on take-off with the three 9 gr rollers in the straight slots......forgot to mention that...

..quickest that I've ever had it...and this was with the red +50 Leo Vince fly clutch springs and a white Malossi 1000 rpm main torque drive spring...drive belt has 10,000 kms...

..Almost wish that I had gotten 4.5 gr rollers other than 4.7 now....dang...

Did you notice a reduction in top speed.  At some point the rollers will be too light to fully compress the torque spring.  It seems that riding just above that threshold should hold the ideal weight rollers.

...my top speed stayed the same...It was really winding out, but seemed well at home in doing so..

..yesterday with the six 4.7 gram rollers was the fastest indicated top speed that I've ever run...

..speedometer would have been at 60 mph..if it went that high...

..wish i'd had that damned gps..or my camera!!  ;D

..my observations with a gps were that at higher speeds, the speedometer offset became less...

..also, i have been travelling this same road for 12 years...we generally run @ 55 thru there...

..my best estimate would be that i was running around 54 mph....

..woo-hoo...i wanna do it again!!!
