Air filter problem
« on: December 12, 2015, 07:02:15 PM »
Lately, any time I've ridden in the rain, my bike loses power and depending on how bad it gets, can completely shut my engine off. When it loses power the engine skips and slowly dies down. My first thought was the air filter. If it's not raining, I have no issues at all.

So question my question is, is it likely to be an air filter problem? If so, is the air filter easy to remove, and can I simply clean it?
I guess another question would be, is it generally considered unwise to ride in the rain?

What bike? Probably is the air filter. Seen this happen on a Dodge van with the slant six. This van flamed out on the I-40 bridge returning to Memphis. Deadlined, we removed the soaking wet filter, bolted the top back and continued home. The filter was very dirty which may have contributed to starving the engine for air. Road splash found its way to the intake snout because of the downpour. Our bikes have a little better splash protection but with high humidity and a downpour, a flame-out is possible. I won't stop a ride because of rain but may cut it short. I absolutely will NOT start a ride in rain unless some really compelling reason gives me no choice.

It's a frost 200. even in light rain, the engine will start choking and lose power. I'm going to check the filter and report back.
