You said in your original post, "I CHANGED the battery a couple of times". This means several batteries, so they can't all be bad. Therefore it must be another problem, like suggested by CROSSBOLT.
I would think that the battery light should be on if the stator or regulator totally failed,but if just partially (on their way out condition) faulty, then the battery might stop be getting a charge but not enough.
You need to get out the mulitimeter, and start checking what voltage you are getting at the battery at idle, and when revving.
That is as far as my knowledge goes.
