Backed into
« on: January 27, 2016, 12:23:37 AM »
So yesterday when waiting at the coffee shop to meet with a new member of MSLF Carolina Scooter Club I was standing on the sidewalk beside my Like who was parked in the middle of a street side parallel parking spot. I watched as an older gentleman got into the SUV parked in the space in front of me and before I could react backed straight into my scooter knocking it over. If the disc lock alarm hadn't gone off most likely he would have rolled right on top of it. To say the least I was beside myself with rage but held it in luckily it runs fine byt a ton of body damage which his GEICO insurance has taken full responsibility for fixing. I will most likely be getting whole left side, front fender, trunk, and left brake level all replaced and probably more.

Geez!
Glad you were around - in case he wanted to just drive off.
I try always to park in the last street-side space , so cars are only parking behind me....or find a hydrant blocked off space and park behind it, for the same reason.
They have many ways to run over our scooters, even when we're not on them!
I have two scootering buddies who park their scoots at the very end of the parking spaces - pointing straight out into the street! Just daring somebody to knock them over while they watch from the coffee shop window! Old geezers, with older scoots - needing excitement I guess.

I really am amazed at how much trouble I've had with either idiots or people honestly making mistakes and not paying attention when it come to my Like. Guess that is the challenge when it really truly is a daily driver. I'm just glad he had insurance and he freely admitted to police it was his fault. Took one hour after contacting GEICO for them to process, take full responsibility for repairs, and assign an estimator so kudos to them but I guess I really do need those chrome crash bars lol. Or maybe I need this. . . .

Ouch! That hurts on so many levels. One of the reasons rear view cameras and sonar will be standard equipment on vehicles. Scooters like kids aren't always in the line of sight when backing up.

Sorry for your misfortune, but luckily the driver owned up to it and it on public record making way for Geico to take care of the situation. I had someone rearend my Honda when it was new and their insurance carrier was Geico who took care of it pronto.

In the past three years, our vehicles have been involved in three accidents.
NONE WAS OUR FAULT !
Two of the three accidents cost us big money out of pocket.
The first was a crooked dealership that damaged my car and lied about it. This one was the most expensive.
The second one happened two summers ago. I was stopped at a traffic light at a four way intersection. I was sitting at a red light with both hands on my brake levers, had on a FLO-ORANGE shirt, and some ass whole comes up and rear ends me. I was on my GTI300.
Found out later, the guy was driving on a revoked licenses with no insurance. More out of pocket expense.
The third was when my wife used my truck to take our dog to the vet. While there, a woman backed into my truck. She admitted fault and here insurance paid. Still not a good or pleasant situation.
Bottom line, I am 66 years old, and in my life time I have never seen so many bad drivers on the road as now.
I am pissed!.

Bad and careless drivers are my number 1 pet peeve.

That sucks big time! Stig, watch it on that "old geezer" stuff! I really don't know what the answer is to this. And this is not a today problem. Watched an old geezer in '62 back into a shiny new MGB and was gonna drive off until I stopped him.

paceneedsstides, glad to hear you weren't on the scooter when the guy backed up. Nothing can be worse than seeing your bike damaged. It's like an extension of yourself was damaged. I haven't had a chance to ride in two weeks due to the weather, and when I get the urge to just say the hell with it and get on, I look at all the ice, plus how BAD everyone is driving, and I think -- nope. I'll wait.

Home the repairs come soon and without any problems,

-Wolf

Man I am sorry about your scooter! Glad you are alright and I hope after the repairs that it is better than ever. I like your attitude I think the cannon is a great idea! I would most likely have to  rejet my carb to be able to haul one around though.
