caution
« on: January 22, 2016, 05:07:48 AM »
Word of Caution for those that do your own work.  DO NOT TURN THE KEY TO ON IF YOU UNPLUGED ANYTHING!  it will trip a check engine light which CAN'T be reset manually!!!!  I accidently unplugged tps and map doing some work and found out the hard way.  I've tried the trick in the manual to reset, I've googled it and no go,
Scooter runs fine, but miles per gallon is down the drain big time!!

I've recently acquired the Kymco FI diagnostic tool just to clear the error.  I though you can reset TPS/ISC via the tool, but I don't have that option, only thing I can adjust is CO....I am at factory 0 so I up it to +2 because I have K&N filter(more fuel), do I need to take it to dealer to update this tool to the latest firmware?  would they do it? I think the tool says 1.08a

TPS may be set utilizing the Kymco tool but it just shows the TPS output voltage to the ECU way easier than doing it with a multimeter. You still have to use a wrench to reposition the TPS. As far as scrambling the ECU by disconnecting sensors with key on, I think you can reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds or longer. I did not see on my tool any way to adjust CO%, it just shows what it is. My question to Kymco USA went unanswered. Imagine that. Don't forget to initialize after you reset the ECU.

thanks for the chip in.  I've tried to disconnect the battery for whole night and still the check engine light persist, that's why I got the FI tool.  I think the version of software loaded onto the FI tool will give different options.  I did some research and found that the older version software have the CO % option and the newer ones don't.  Also seems like the CO% option will only effect low to mid throttle, CO%, it will not affect WOT.  People are saying eventually the CO% will be zero out again as the ECU learns from O2 sensor, not sure, will keep an eye out after some miles.  Found out that each step will adjust .2% of fuel.

I think "initialize" procedure will eliminate the CELP. After all night being without power the ECU should be happy but if TPS and ISC are not initialized, one or more "codes are throwed" that will light up the CELP. I love that series of phrases, "Throw a code," "codes are throwed," and so on! Sounds goofy but it gets the point across, which is the important part. Let us know what's next. I think your ECU is OK so don't let some dealer sell you a new one.
