bad manual again
« on: February 15, 2010, 10:24:46 PM »
Someone had head up his you know where when this manual was put together.  Here is my latest find - air cleaner - the service manual says

The air cleaner element has a viscous
type paper element. Do not clean it
with compressed air.

My owners manual says to clean with compressed air.  Which I did once long ago - hopefully I didn't hurt my "viscous type paper element".

The owners manual is chock full of bad info - BEWARE!!  Either that or the service manual is.  I hate to have to investigate every maintenance issue.

Glad the economy is slow and I have plenty of time to dick around with this stuff.

The only way to hurt it is by blowing holes in it. I don't know if it is in the translation or if the manuals are just an after-thought for Kymco. Common sense seems to be the only thing to trust here.

i think viscous means oil saturated??  couldn't find much info about it or how to clean, if you can't blow it out how do you clean? or just replace.  Found replacement for 18 bucks - sound reasonable?

It's fair!?!~ I use gas to clean my K&N TYPE filter. Then a little PB Blaster on the "paper" I figure it should last until the next best thing comes along.

Really?  That doesn't sound like it would be so good for it.  I use the K&N cleaner and oil.

I need to buy a new kit myself.  I seem to recall it was only about $10 though.

..i use spray contact cleaner and compressed air....

..did the same when I had mystock filter....cleans very well, if not a little pricey...

..compressed air will clean ur stock filter just fine, but like zombie said..don't blow a hole in it...

Opened it up today - looks fine,   Was only a little black around where the air comes in - about a 2 inch circle of grime - I blew it off gently with air - didn't see ANYTHING come off it.  That was the easiest of my scooter tasks for the day.  I am going to get a new element to have when the time comes.
