How do I replace the drive belt on a People S 250?
« on: July 20, 2011, 03:50:43 AM »
While driving it sounded like the drive belt broke and I suddenly lost all drive.
I ASSume it is the drive belt.
The Drivers Manual does not cover this topic.
Are there instructions (with pictures) on the internet I can look at?
I'm hoping I can do it myself ... I don't have a trailer to tow it (about 20 miles).

Maybe these would help?  http://www.wotmeworry.org.uk/manuals/Kymco/Kymco%20P250%20Manual/Service%20Guides/

How many miles does it have when the belt broke?

yes i would look at chapter 8.....but you can not assume its the belt....pull off the cover and inspect belt ///is it completely off variator/clutch.....worn.....frayed.......i don't know how many miles you have on the machine...sometimes rollers/weights break up and can cause you to loose power. i am assuming you can still start the scooter.....

Read the thread by Axy titled "Just bought People 250 S"  in this section.  About 2/3 of the way down page 5 the description of belt change starts.  It's far from easy the first time you try it.

What about asking the dealer to pick it up?  They will probably charge a fee but maybe not too bad.

I need to get into my drive belt area too.  I have the PS250 and there is a bolt that holds the cover on that is impossible to get to.  If anyone has done it can you please list what has to be stripped away to get to this bolt.  The shop manual sucks when it comes to removing the body - not sure you can - bunch of little screws in there that are really buried deep.

I bet they made freakin' P25S0 so you cannot do anything by yourself.
Changing oil in brakes or coolant takes a whole day!

You can access the bolt from inside with a very small wrench number 8 or 9, I think, and extreme patience.
Otherwise steel frame is in the way.

You need to remove the bucket under the seat and do it from inside. You cannot do it from outside.
When I was reinstalling the CVT cover I did not tighten that particular bolt fully so I can remove it more easily next time.

finally took the body off - not to terrible of a chore after all.  Then you can take off foot rest that makes it hard to get the cover on and off.  Also you can get to the trouble maker bolt that is impossible to get to other wise.  Next time it will be cake.  Had some dr puiley sliders that I bought for my honda big ruckus that were perfect for the Kymco.  NOw I fuss with brakes!

I took off the foot rest first so I could get the cover back on the pulley area (the footrest makes it hard to get off and almost impossible to get back on with gasket in place).  The footrest was causing me real pain.  Then I found I had to remove the body to get the footrest back on.  Turned out to be not such a terrible deal after learning curve.  While it was all open I changed my spark plug and adjusted the valves - much easier without body on.  I think I could get it off in half an hour now.  And back on in the same amount of time.
