BELT & Kickstart Check
« on: June 29, 2010, 10:55:46 PM »
Is it much of a P in the A to split the case to grease the kickstart & check the belt?

Is there a rule of thumb on checking & replacing the belt?

I did recall seeing something about someone kickstarter making noise and re-greasing it to rectify the sityation.

I may as well do that while I'm waiting for the CDI. That & flap wheel the rear drum.

It's pretty easy to pop the cover off.To replace the belt you will need an impact driver a 17mm and a 14mm socket.Belt and roller are relitvely cheap I'd replace both if going in unless scoot has low miles. You'll be glad you did.I always keep the old one for a spare, can't go wrong.

...yeah, and use grease sparingly...don't want it transferring to your moving cvt parts...

It's easiest to pull ALL the rear plastic off first. It takes me about 10 minutes to get into the cvt. The belt should measure no LESS than 17mm wide. That is the service limit. Also twist the belt inside out to check for cracks on or between the teeth. I also use a little emory cloth to take the shine off all the pulleys.
