HELP 2003 zx50, Any good BBKs?
« on: February 05, 2016, 04:02:12 PM »
Hey im new to this, Bought a 2003 Kymco zx50 a few months back. I want to modify it to an 80cc, plus play with it of course. The issue is I know little to nothing about these things but really want to learn with not a lot of resources (plan on having this as long as possible) This is actually my first official vehicle. Any tips and points about the scooter? Where to get parts? What parts to use? Main thing is where to find and what else I need to have an 80cc bbk kit working nicely? I appreciate all feedback!

I am italian, here we use malossi and polini bbks. They are simply great, more power but with the same reliability. There are 4 cilynders made by malossi  and polini: Polini "base" (7-8 hp), polini corsa (10-11 hp), malossi sport, (7-8hp) and malossi mhr replica (alluminium, 10-11hp). You can buy them on ebay, the prices here in italy go from 100 dollars for polini base to 250 for mhr replica, but there in usa (i suppose you live there) the prices are higher, (200 to 270-300 for corsa).

Would I need to change any other parts to performance, or could I keep on the stock parts? (Exhaust pipe, etc)

You can keep stock parts, but for better performances you can change the vario with the malossi one, then you can change the pipe and the carburetor

Yes, leaving all stock you'll have less performance. If you don't want to spend a lot of money you can even change only the variator with the malossi one.

look motoritec, naraku, dr etc.  cast iron cylinder, you will find them in less than 70 eur for example  ebay. These also work well for standard carburetor and exhaust pipe.  my opinion is: cast iron cylinder and two piston ring to provide a long service life ,max 10000rpm  then it takes even if the standard crankshaft...honda dio af16/18/27 parts fit to kymco.
