Chain Adjustment on MXU 250
« on: July 11, 2016, 03:47:47 AM »
I just picked up a '05 MXU 250 w/900 miles.  Going over the machine I found a couple of issues that need to be addressed.  The chain has too much slack in it.  I went through the normal chain adjustment process and it just didn't offer enough travel in the rear sprocket to resolve.  Are there any other options, or am I looking at a chain replacement?  I wondered if there was a way to adjust the engine placement in order to take out more slack towards the front than what the rear adjustment does?  Also, is it normal for this machine to have some tapping noise in the engine?  Some of the other videos I've seem posted seem to sound the same.

Thanks!

Time for a new chain if its stretched that much. I would replace the rear sprocket also. The front should be OK. Spend the extra $$ and get an O Ring chain. It will last longer and require less maintenance.
Tapping noise is likely loose valve clearances. If you are not familiar with this i would take it to a dealer. do a valve clearance check, Lube, Oil & Filter change. Also clean or replace the air filter.
