Ride Out
« on: April 16, 2016, 10:48:07 PM »
Had a ride out to a place called Belper here in the UK. It is a very old town whose history surrounds the manufacture of Nails, then in the early 1900's Sewing Cotton. In the picture is the Cotton Mill built in 1912. It's a sobering thought that in just 100 years this Mill has gone through its birth and it's closure. Belper is a World Heritage site thanks to its history. Until recently it was the home of the Silkolene Refinery which alas is closed and is a wonderful housing development. I grew up in and around this place, lived here when I first married and it holds many a good memory

Thank you for the great pictures - so good to see other parts of the world... and with a very handsome scooter in the scene!!
Nice looking bike - I see why this KYMCO is SO popular with its riders!
Good helmet color as well.

(so, so many of these big brick factories have closed in the once very busy small American towns. Saw the same in Massachusetts as I see here in Ohio. Magazine publishers, appliance factories, shoe factories, truck and auto plants. International Harvester once ran three big shifts a day making trucks.....now parking lot is mostly empty on the single day shift.)

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

It's great that the old building is repurposed. Too often in the states they are demolished and if we are lucky a plaque giving interested parties a bit of a history lesson.
