Advise-fitment of dc/DC converter
« on: May 14, 2016, 08:25:16 PM »
Scoot:Xciting 500 efi.
Issue: Cold start fix.
What:Dc/DC converter
How:connected to ECU.
When:best case=automatically switch between original loom and this supplant aryl circuit,  or otherwise  just a toggle switch and led.

There is this German kymco forum Guy who successfully did this, and working perfectly with cold starts, but no pics unfortunately.

Anybody have any ideas on this?

How about just a small 12 volt battery and a single pole double throw switch? The LED would be necessary to switch back to the main battery after start. Even eight alkalines would work in a holder for 12 volts.

Thanks crossbolt, for the input.
A nice simple idea.
I however am keen on the German kymco forum guy's solution because it is more elegant.
Another ZA forum dude suggested it be connected to the starter so it only gets voltage while starter is running. That sorts of the automatic part of this project.
He also pointed me to a dc booster, that is always pumping out 13.5v no matter what the input voltage.
I am still not sure if this will blow the ecu/cdi.
Because I do know this ; how it is connected up will be the determining factor.

xsel, you are a much braver man than I. I wish you nothing but the best from this project. Could you please explain again how you've come to determine that it is a low voltage issue at startup (or am i misunderstood)?
