Summer riding and protection
« on: July 27, 2016, 06:52:32 AM »
What do you guys wear in summer that provides protection but at the same time is easy to take off and store/carry once you have reached your destination.
I am looking at purchasing one of the Ventata jackets made for summer conditions but have not found out suitable trousers yet.  If Corazzo made a matching mesh trousers for the Ventata jacket then I would be happy with that.

Here is a link to the jacket.  http://www.corazzo.net.au/product/the-ventata/

I wear jeans (I just put up with the heat), over-the-ankle riding shoes, and a FirstGear mesh textile jacket in high-vis yellow. The jacket stays well ventilated up to about 95*F, and comes with a liner for the cooler weather. Of course, I have a pair of padded leather gloves I wear in the warmer weather, and a thicker insulated pair for the cool weather. Here is a link to the jacket so you can see what it looks like: http://firstgear-usa.com/mesh-tex-jacket.html

I stash the jacket in my topcase, or under my seat, when I go into a store or something. To me it's worth being a little warmer but well protected in case of an accident. Besides, it's only for a few months that we have to ride in the heat. Small price to be safe.

(By the way, I couldn't get your link to work...)

Riding with the same mesh hi vis jacket (my dealer had them on sale for $99 - I should have purchased another!)
and upgraded the pads with the orange  "D30" pads.

I find the Slider Kevlar jeans no hotter than reg jeans. Put the D30's in these jeans, too.
This mesh jacket is the closest one I could find to being 100% hi vis......

In the summer I commute to work in my Corazzo scooter jacket, full face helmet, mesh riding gloves, jeans (at times) and riding boots. I carry with me a change of shirts because I’m a sweaty mess when I arrive. I leave home early before my class starts so I have plenty of time to wash up and change. Once I return to home I hit the showers again (I really hate the Summer).

If I’m riding in my town I’ll wear my helmet and gloves if the temperature is in the 90’s, but at night the jacket comes back on. I’d love to get a summer mesh jacket, or Kevlar jeans, but right now it’s not in the budget.

I wear a hi-viz mesh. It's the Trial by Fire by Speed and Strength. I've grown to hate it. The hi-viz has faded heavily and the zipper binds. My Scorpion jacket by comparison wears like iron, but not the best jacket when temps reach mid 80s upward.

I park the mesh in winter....and go with 7 layers, one of which is quilt lined perferated leather ICON,  some   really cold days.
Keep core warm and hands.....all is good.
No matter heat....leather gloves....armored mesh jacket and full face helmet.
Jacket and kevlar jean upgraded with D30 in knees..back...hips...shoulders...elbows. Transferable to any other jacket.

For running errands around town I wear mesh jacket and either Kevlar jeans or sometimes regular pants.  Mesh pants are cooler than jeans but not as practical due to fewer pockets.  For longer rides its mesh jacket and pants.  If it's really hot I'll wear a cooling vest as well but only for long rides.
