Best MPG
« on: June 15, 2016, 02:35:57 PM »
2010 Xciting 500Ri

I've tracked MPG for every mile I've ever ridden on my scooters. I filled up yesterday and knew it was going to be pretty good because I had topped 150 miles and the fuel light had just come on. You can see from my tag line that I'm averaging just over 50MPG but when I filled up yesterday I got 55.3mpg (89kpg). What are you getting or do you even keep track. Let me know.

Thats good mileage on your 500! I get 70mpg on my People 150. I could get better, but what the heck. Its too much fun going fast on a slow vehicle!

Hey Wayne!!!  What are you doing to get better mileage?  Different fuel, etc?

Mine averages 53mpg. that's city and hiway. On trips, it averages 55 and once 60mpg. It's an '09 with fi. The only engine mods are Zard free flow exhaust and custom made air filters. I cut out the cardboard on the OEM and cut to fit a piece of Uni-Foam. That's the stuff motocross racers often use to make their air filters. Everything else is stock. I had problems with some major drive train mods like Dr. Pulley sliders and a different variator. Since then I keep it stock except for the afore-mentioned mods.

Oh once on a trip I got between 45 and 50 on the hiway. I was fully loaded for scooter camping aka s'camping, including cold weather garb and was riding into a steady north wind.

Nothing special with the exception that I have noticed on both my Super8 150 and the Xciting 500 that MPG seems to be directly related to how much throttle you give it off the line. I always try and just throttle to where I need it and let the scoot slowly accelerate to the speed I want. If you are the heavy throttle type person that wants to beat cars off the line from every stop then you will see significant decrease in MPG. I have been using hypermiling techniques for several years now on my cars and now scooters. I really helps. Just google hypermiling and there's several sites that talk about things you can do to increase MPG. Some techniques I do not do as I feel they are dangerous. I just always try and drive/ride anticipating what is ahead and try to never use the brakes. Realistically, not using the brake isn't possible but you can really notice a difference if you try.

I have learned the hyper-miling techniques with my cars. It is really amazing how much of an improvement in mileage that can be made with the correct techniques. Like you Wayne, I do not do some of the more "advanced" techniques. I should try hyper miling on my People 150. I am pretty sure I could get 80 to 90 mpg.

It is pretty much required to goose the throttle taking off with the Burgman 400 to prevent glazing the clutch. ...and I do it as well on the LIKE200I to preclude the same.
Get very very smooth take offs on both....the Forza didn't care how I rode it - was always butter smooth.
Last I tracked the LIKE200I it was @78 mpg...Burgman doesn't get tracked....though it has a mpg read-out if I want it. I leave it on temp setting due to winter riding.
Need to know freeze likelyhood. But if really cold and dry conditions. ..I try not to look at it...so I can pretend I'm not stupidly riding a scooter at 14°F !!
You have to play mind games. ...
