Paint match
« on: October 24, 2016, 10:01:25 PM »
Had a little family collision where my wife ran her People outrigger wheel fender into my DT300i muffler heat shield and left a pretty good scuff. Wet sanded with #400 grit  and painted with Perfect Match BGM0522 from O'reilly's. Cannot tell the difference between the original and the repair. Painted the whole heat shield and the end piece. This is at least one color to put in for the non-existent touch-up paint for Kymco. Read all the posts where others here tried to find touch-up paint and Kymco does not have any.

Did you match the muffler or the People?
If it was the People what model of People, & what year?

Thanks

It was the shield on the DT300i, Tromp. 2013, grey smoke metallic on the cap label. The part of her bike that crunched mine was the Tow-Pac fender of the left outrigger or "training wheels." Fenders on that are fiberglass and the gel coat had a smudge. Nothing on the People actually touched my bike.

Karl, your Dt300 is white, if I remember correctly. I have the " burnt orange " Dt300. The gray parts on both scooters, are the same color, correct? I have a scuff on my heat shield too. I'm going to go buy the BMG0522. Now finding the burnt orange, is another matter!!!

The orange is a toughie! But that smoke grey metallic is as exact as I can see!

Check the Dodge Challenger orange they call mango. Looks pretty visible (outrageous!). Could be close.

Ok, thanks. Will do . I emailed this company, scooter paints.com, the guy wants me to send him a part off the Dt300, so he can match the color. If I had a spare piece, I would, but I'm not willing to take a part off, and hope that it gets returned. I'll check out the Dodge mango.

Yes, I actually get complimented, all the time. Sometimes, it looks more red than orange

Karl, good call on the paint. Went to autozone and bought the gray. It matches very, very close to original. I also found something pretty darn close to the burnt orange.

Yes sir, I think we did. For the few little spots, that I needed to touch up, it worked very well. I'm satisfied.

Blue Max, Tromp! George Peppard, James Mason, what a movie! Highest award to WWI German fliers. Good name for a cherished scoot!
