That new 550 Kymco
« on: October 18, 2016, 10:42:28 AM »
One of the most intriguing things about this new flagship scooter  from Kymco  is its "nearly 50/50 weight distribution".
Pretty cool....but how are they doing this?
I think of my scoots rear bias every time I  ride through the 1/4 mile section of frost heaves every morning. I always  shift forward on my LIKE200i 's home-built bench seat. Trying to get the front wheel to share more of the load and harshness.
A scooter  with a more balanced  chassis would be a treat to ride....since so many scoots ride so poorly over rough roads.
Not the scooter 's fault with the engine  and our rumps sitting mostly on the rear suspension.
How's Kymco solving  this on their new scooter?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Good question. Move the engine forward, make final drive a tooth belt with CVT forward of final belt a la motorcycle. Now, how did THEY do it?

Unless they put the seating position in the center, Once we sit on it, that 50-50 bias QUICKLY goes out the window. Lol.

If you look at a picture of the AK550 you will notice that the driver sits right at the  front of the engine pivot mount, where as others you sit behind that point. So with a driver the 50/50 split still occurs but add a passenger  and all bets are off.
