Author Topic: Thinking about buying a non-running Kymco Agility 50 with big bore insatalled  (Read 1301 times)

Howdy all?

I am thinking about buying a non-running kymco agility 50. The owner was not happy with the performance of the scooter and decided to install a 100 ccs big bore on it. I think he installed a whole lot of stuff and somehow could not get the bike to start. He still has the old stuff in a box.
I think he replaced: cylinder, head, valves, rockers, cams, variator, weights, CDI, ignition, exhaust. I am sure i forgot some more components. Anyway, he did extensive work on the scooter but was never able to get it to run. He claims that he had it running once and he was certain it was a carb issue. I am thinking he might have messed up the timing chain and gears and the darn thing does not fire up when it is supposed to. He might even have damaged some internal components whilst trying to run it with the timing completely off. I know that is a common mistake and serious engine damage can result from that.
I am thinking about buying the whole thing and reinstalling the original parts and get it over with.
How complicated would it be to bring this scooter back to life?
I am not familiar with scooters. However I have really big bikes and have never bothered with scooters. This will be for my daughter to putt putt around town and go buy groceries when she needs to.
Any input is highly appreciated.

If it`s for your daughter to puff about with you could perhaps change it back to the original 50CC, not a too difficult job, just take your time and do it properly.
But you`d never know what really is wrong with it. It`s a risk.

This is the very reason why I am hesitating a lot. I should be able to switch it back to its stock form if nothing bad was done to it. If the engine is gone I would have lost $300.

I would recommend you stay away. Don't buy a problem at any price. Just my 2 cents.

I did wise up and decided to continue looking for something else. I don't want to throw away good money at a bad scooter only to find myself dragged in a long series of repairs that might not be able to bring the scooter back to life.

Fixing up a non-running 50cc is a no-brainer.  There's only one or two things that go wrong in reassembly, and it just takes minutes to diagnose and fix.  Most likely it's the cam timing, and there's plenty of YouTube videos on installing the cam correctly.  I'd leave the BBK in place because it makes a really nice commuter scooter.   Maybe 2 hours tops to fix everything, including watching the YT video.
