31°F + Fog = 0 Visibility

I had to pull off the road, have coffee from my thermos and wait for some daylight due to the very, very thick fog down there. It took me two tries to find my turn-off.
 
I think this was only the 3rd time I had to abort my scooter ride due to such heavy fog.

It was also 31°F. First sub freezing ride this fall. Definitely time to get the Pinlock installed.
Although, I have heard reports that a Pinlock will cause double the glare for night riding. (of course I ride in the dark every day)
Your experience with a Pinlock in the dark?

We were in KY south of Cincinnatti when you were wandering in OH fog and it was 32 F also. Fog too.

Not sure what Pinlock is?
 In my 1st year of riding 2 wheels, 80's, I had a Suzuki TS100. 6v electrics, a 25w bulb? Was heading back home after a 30 mile rideout....last 7 miles was high ground and thick fog. about 20 feet visibility at best. I bumped the high sided verge so many times, because I was so fearful of veering into the middle of the road. Couldn't see tarmac half the time! Was only doing about 12mph max and it took forever. Never seen fog that thick since.
 Was another time on my 185, 6v lights again! It was the strangest conditions I'd ever ridden in. Not very thick fog, more a very deep YELLOW/BROWN mist and was soaking everything. Nothing to do with a yellowy headlight, it wasn't really....I had weird concerning thoughts the the nearby Nuclear Power station was leaking badly and colouring the air! Ridng in Sepia!

This is a plastic insert for the inside of your face shield. It is used to prevent fogging inside the shield.
Some helmets come with 'pins' molded into the far edges inside of the face shield. This product clips into these pins...locking the extra layer of plastic in place, and sealing out face shield fogging on the inside.

I don't like looking through an extra layer of plastic most of the year....but when it gets cold enough to heavily & repeatedly fog my face shield it is time to install the "pinlock" product. It permits me to ride more often in cold weather with the face shield fully closed.

To prevent fogging on those cold days, don't exhale for the duration of the ride. 

Some helmets like my Scorpion don't come ready for pinlocks, but instead have an anti-fogging coating on the shield. It works to a point, but at stops I have to lift the visor up at some point as the shield will fog. As long as there is air movement I have no fogging.

Oh that good! Didn't know of such a gadget.
I doubt that my helmet will have this option. It was rather cheap, but still made sure it was of medium protection.
I have considered getting the sprays that are sold online. But I seem to be able to survive without for now.
Temperatures are no lower than -2c here, but generally +2 to +6c at night.  Another 2 months and it will be more like -2 to -10c here!

Stig was explaining pinlocks, thank you....but are they helmet specific or generic fit? never had a clear answer on this...

Same here, in Maine....went for a ride anyway. Face mask & Winter/waterproof armored jacket/Winter/waterproof gloves, long johns, face mask (no face shield when fogging up conditions exist)... not too bad a ride.
