NEVER BUY FROM MOTO-SCIENCE!!!!
« on: September 13, 2013, 01:38:12 AM »
I just had a wonderful experience with buying long stem mirrors for my Like so I thought I should share. I don't want anyone here getting screwed like I did. I ordered a pair of mirrors off EBay a couple weeks ago. They looked great and when they got here they looked even better. I put them on my scoot and was extremely happy that I could finally see around my shoulders when I ride. Unfortunately the left mirror started dropping when I rode and ended up pointing almost straight down. It would swivel from the ball joint so of course there's no way to tighten that. I called the seller and he told me to send the mirror back so he could check it out.
Well, today the mirror showed up at my door so I took it out of the package and found that he had completely shredded both sides of the mirror as well as the stem. The mirror is now gauged all to hell and looks like crap. To me it's unusable. I sure as hell don't want that on my brand new scooter.
I called the seller and he told me I had cross threaded the mirror into the stem so he had to put it in a vise to get it apart. Now, excuse me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you think there would be some other way of doing this without completely ruining the mirror? He said it was pretty much my fault that he had to shred my $40 mirror. I said he should send me a new mirror and of course he told me he won't and that nobody is going to give him a new mirror.
I strongly recommend never doing business with this seller. He is Moto-Science.com. He's on EBay and he has an Internet store.
I would love to get everyone's opinion on if this guy should have done what he did or maybe I'm angry for a good reason.

Thanks everyone and ride safe, mscmkr

Assuming it was advertised as New, I'd say you deserve a fully functional mirror in new condition - not marred/scratched/faulty.  Anyway, sounds like you've already tried to work with him on this directly, so I'd suggest just filing a case with E-bay buyer protection (and/or Paypal):
http://ocsnext.ebay.com/ocs/sr?st=1&query=I%20have%20a%20problem%20with%20an%20item%20I%20bought,%20what%20do%20I%20do?

If that doesn't work push it further with the credit card company, assuming that's how the payment was made.  Note that most credit card companies want you to wait for Ebay/Paypal's decision before accepting a claim.

When shopping on E-bay, I've started checking not only the seller's rating (moto-science actually looks very good), but how well they handle the neutral and negative feedbacks -- this guy seems so defensive in all of his neutral/negative responses, so I'd be a bit leary of doing business with him.

Hope it works out

This guy sounds like a jerk!

First off your the customer. Aren't you the one that's always right? He should have just sent you a whole new mirror. Unless you mailed the whole scooter to him with the broken mirror attached to it, it sound like he was just trying to save a buck and give you back the same piece of crap. Thanks for the warning.

OK, I think I see the kind of mirrors you bought from this guy - pretty expensive!
I bought these from the same guy and really like them:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Piaggio-Vespa-LML-Star-Scooter-long-adjustable-motorcycle-mirror-Italy-/111150064846?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19e10f64ce#ht_1246wt_807

They have set screws everywhere , and I did have to buy threaded mounts - but they work great for me once I figured out I had to use blue locktite or they'd work loose on the road....
He sure did mess yours up - don't blame you for being upset - there had to be a better way to fix them without chewing up the finish on them!
Don't get in an argument with this guy - but Check with eBay - they are pretty good about trying to keep buyers happy. Their business depends on it!

Very good point about checking how sellers react to less than good feedback. I will pay attention to that from now on!

The first advice is the way to go E-Bay, Paypal, Credit Card (if that's how you paid for them).  I use my vice on chrome items all the time and don't leave a mark on them. This guy is just BSing you.

Moto-science reponds :   Above clueless clown cross threaded the mirror so badly, I had to put it in a vice to remove the arm.
We repaired his careless installation for free.
One thing I am not inspired to do is reward stupid and careless installation.

Moto-science has been in business for ~10 years and has a 100% customer satisfaction on Amazon and Ebay.

I sincerely doubt Stig does anything with this level of consistent excellent customer service.

"I sincerely doubt Stig does anything with this level of consistent excellent customer service."

FYI - I have over 1100 international eBay dealings with a flawless record over the past 16 years.

And, I don't know how I got in the middle of this. I'm the guy that said your mirrors worked great for me.

Nevertheless, I do NOT agree that the customer is always right - but if the seller has anger issues .....it certainly will show up in how he responds to any perceived criticism.

Google search must have brought this to light.....3 ys late.
Why am I thinking of Seinfeld's "Soup N_zi" episodes here?
Well, anyway....ride your scooter safe.

Moto-science, the original poster said "it swiveled down from the ball joint" which it seems you did not address. Be careful about insults to Stig since he seems to have a more adult response than you and he is technically competent. The mirrors on Genuine Scooter Buddy had a nasty habit of coming loose at the ball joint. The fix was to remove the glass mirror from the metal shroud by removing the rubber gasket around the edge then tightening the nut at the end of the stem with Loctite in the threads. Reassemble in reverse order and the problem was solved. This was probably what you should have done. I guarantee I will not consider buying any thing from you unless you improve your customer service attitude.

Wow, I have bought many things from EBay, I have never had a seller, basically TAUNT me, if I had to return something!! I would definitely contact eBay and or Paypal and credit card company and start a claim.
Hey Stig, you should be honored, that this guy mention you by name. I thought that was pretty funny!!! What's not funny,is that mscmkr, got a bum deal!!!!

No Moto-Science for me. His attitude and demeanor are inexcusable.

Now I am going to block myself and put me in hall of shame and hurt business. I will see.  :)
