Fuel Tank relocation for a DT 300i

This might already be on here. I called myself reading thru everything, but I could have missed it. I have been thinking about pulling the fuel tank out of the floor and putting under the seat. Probably sounds like a silly idear, but I have some hip and lower back problems that make it hard for me to get my foot over the "hump" where the tank resides. I wish I had bought a GT 300i People now, because me and that flat step-thru sure would get along much better. I've already got the DT 300i amd I've put all the other mods on it, that I wanted and it's a good bike. If I could just get rid of that hump, it would a Perfect bike. I can handle the modification okay, but I was concerned about placing that much weight up that high. It would surely move the CG. I've already put a heavy tool pouch up there and haven't notice any difference in handling. The tools are only for the test and would come out if the tank or a tank goes in there. Any idears?? Major problem with the hump: the frame is in that hump not the fuel tank. I am at least pretty sure! Think of trading for a 300i People.

that is true there is a upper and lower frame , it makes the downtown frame much stronger than the GTI 300,.

Since this is going to be a major, and ongoing, issue with your riding enjoyment....only seems to make sense to begin planning  to trade for a step through scooter I think.

I didn't know the frame was in the hump also. In that case, that idea is out. Maybe a small yard arm with a stirrup?? Just kidding...Anybody got a GT 300i they'd like to swap? Maybe since I can lift my left leg, I need to practice mounting from the right side. Dismounting is easy . I just put my left foot on the ground and than drag the right foot over the hump. Thanks for your feedback. I'll come up with something cause I ain't gonna give up riddin til I can't walk anymore.

Ole2wheels, adapting is good! The DT has a bigger tank which is good for 200+ miles while the People GTi300 is good for 100 or less. This would be important for easy touring to have better range. IMO.

I doubt that I will be doing much touring, but bigger is better when comes to fuel tanks. I guess that was a pretty dumb idea. Frame alterations are an absolute No No. May just have ti learn to live with the hump. This is a good bike and I've done all the other creature comfort mods. Might as well learn to live with it. I agree with you that the hump-floor scooters are next to useless, mostly because you can't carry anything on the floor.  This is a big feature with scooters, because it enables them to carry stuff that can't be done on a motorcycle.

The people has a little taller feel I ride them because I'm 6 5 don't forget that before you make your trade when you come to a stop your feet gotta hit the ground good luck the all the people bikes are what drew me to kymco!

yes I enjoy the Yager/ frost scooter   Yager 163 CC   Frost 175.5 CC   easier to get my foot through and over the step is sure nice,   Ill be 84 come spring and need every thing easier, to get around,  got to ride till I am 90 or more I hope!!

I heard that de dee. The hump on my DT300i is higher than the one on my Silverwing, which I sold because I was having trouble getting my right foot over it. Last year I broke my left hip and then had the right one replaced and my lower back has a Z in the spine around 38 and 39. That happened in 1963 in a peanut field in the home of Kymco, Taiwan. I was a paratrooper and we jumped in winds gusting to 40 knots. Lots of broken body parts that day. Anyways after my hips got better I bought the DT300i. I know now I would be better off with a GT300i, but as they say, hind sight is 20 20.
84, wow you're looking good. I got a friend who just turned 85 and has two motorcycles and rides 'em both. I probably won't see 84 or 85, but if I do, I'm hoping I'll be riding too. Ride on bro
